Stan, am I right in assuming that a wheel trueing device and a wheel balancer are different?? If they are one and the same, I have a balancing device here you can borrow. I use if for balancing wheels/tyres as I change my own Essentially just a shaft and a couple of bearings. Very simple and could be posted

    Re: Wheel Stand

you need a stand that locks against the bearings (using the through bolt being clamped) to true the wheel, most of the ones that have bearings on the frame are more for wheel assembly as you cant get a true horizontal run out reading!

if dont have a frame leave the discs off and do it in the forks.

    Re: Wheel Stand

I made one out of a chipboard platform. The supports are out of wooden pieces. At the end I have a metal plate on each support arm, and on each metal plate, two bearings are bolted. I use the wheel axle across these to balance the wheel.

It's not fine engineering, but it does the job.

You could put a magnetic stand on the one pictured abouve and then use a DTI to true the wheel up

    Re: Wheel Stand

wont work as the presure of the dti will push the wheel away from it and give you a duff reading hence the need for the wheel to be clamped, spacers fitted and the bearings loaded to get a true reading.

Dont know what type of clocks your using ????
Then use the type that pivots instead of slides, no pressure will be applied that way, agreed you would have to clamp the wheel but then put the dti to the rim and that would measure the run out.

CAn't be that difficult to do loads of people down here who race build there own wheels and don't seem to have huge drama's
