Re: Round the Coast for Cancer

I was up early this morning to see if I could get the bike out of the garage and to the main road. Our little crescent never gets gritted so very slow to clear of ice and snow.

The road was a solid sheet of ice and was shining like polished glass. IMHO it would have been crazy to have even tried to ride this morning, never mind ride for hundereds of miles.

Hope he has sense to 'cabin up' if conditions stay as they are or get even worse which looks possible.

    UP THE WORKERS!

Re: Round the Coast for Cancer

He's very determined and single minded and a very competant rider (did stunt riding for a while) and he's sticking to the main roads as far as possible, tomorrow and wednesday are the most concern as he travels around the Scottish Highlands (-7°C forecast for Lerwick)

Even if he has to cut bits out though where it's really bad, or take an extra day or two I really can't see anyone asking for their money back

Re: Round the Coast for Cancer

Well, I've left a message on Rob's mobile just now to see what the craic is.
Must admit, I'm a little concerned.
The A9 was blocked North and South yesterday, my friend logged - 16 in his car going through Drumochter on Saturday and it looks to continue with this cold spell.
I thought the snow would be well gone by now, but it's been here for a while now and combined with the low temperatures and ice on snow, does not look good.
Saying that, the coastal main roads may be ok,hope so.

If I hear anything I will let you know.

Re: Round the Coast for Cancer

Thanks, Lowflyer, I know he recieves and values any information sent to his mobile, I think the next couple of days are going to be the most testing, he tires quickly when riding due to his disabilities associated with the tumours, but it will be even more so in the extreme cold.

Please don't stop sending him updates on weather, or local route info' he probably won't reply, but that doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate the help, it's just the way he is

Re: Round the Coast for Cancer - HELP!

This morning - 9.25 Tuesday - in Anstruther, Fife Rob's in trouble.
His V won't start - turns over, but no spark.
He's got it in bits, tank off. He's running out of ideas as to what may be causing it.
Can anyone suggest a reason/course of action?
His mission is in jeopardy - worst case should he try to borrow another bike to keep to his timetable?
Is there a dealer near St Andrews?
Bike shops in Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Cupar, Perth etc. all closed for Xmas.
    He's on his own.

    Rob's on 0752 7795 958 - he'd love a call if anyone can suggest a cause and cure...

Re: Round the Coast for Cancer

Its nothing as daft as the engine kill switch or side stand down is it? We've all been there with that one sometime! If not what about faulty switches? Kill switch, side stand or neutral switches.
I dont know much about a versys so they are just my initial suggestions.
    Hope he gets it sorted.

I've passed these on to Rob, who's also trying some tip switch at the back of the gearbox...keep 'em coming...

Re: Round the Coast for Cancer

Chris from Coleford, ("Slacker" on Versys forum) writes at 12:
I've spoken to Rob and he is in big trouble with the electrics on the bike
DK motorcycles are also trying to help but are also no having a lot of luck.
He has tried all the normal things such as:
    fuses [about 8 in total]
    clutch sensor
    down sensor
    sidestand sensor
    main 30 amp separate fuse
He is an engineer with a life time with bikes so does know what he is doing as in trying to start it.
The F1 light does not light up when switching on the key, turn the bike over then switch the key off and the F1 light comes on then goes off.
Just remembered, I forgot to say the rectifier being faulty gives the same faults...

    Anyone know anything else?"

Re: Round the Coast for Cancer

Today - Tuesday pm - in Anstruther, Fife roundthecoastforcancer
rider Rob Edwards is in deep trouble.

His motorbike, which has brought him from Llandudno via Land’s End and Dover in 6 days, won't start - it's dead as a doornail. turns over, but no spark.
He's had it in bits, tank off. He's an experienced biker and engineer. He's done all the obvious and with the help of other bikers, not so obvious things.
No dealer is open near St Andrews.
Bike shops in Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Cupar, Perth etc. are all closed for Xmas.
    He's on his own.

His whole mission is in jeopardy round the coast in 10 days raising funds for cancer charities.
    Now he's appealing for help...

    TEXT HIM ON:
    Rob's on 0752 7795 958 - he'd love a text if anyone can suggest a solution...
He needs a loan bike to continue
