Do you know what a wiki is?

If this is a strange question then you probably don't.. If you do that's great..

For those that don't, here's a short explanation..

A 'Wiki' is a piece of software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.
So what does this mean to you?

Well, it means you could write a page for the site on.... anything at all.. from within the site.. no need to learn HTML .. it's as simple as submitting a post to the forum.

The other great thing is this.. Other people can contribute to it, possibly adding things you hadn't thought about.

What's the reason behind this.. Cie has alluded to this in a previous post, and to refresh your memory it's because.. We have masses of fantastic information contained in over 27000 posts But finding it is altogether more difficult.. Let's collect it into a series of topic based web pages so it's easy to find, read and update if needs be..

So what does it really mean to you.. It really means that you will be creating the future of the site..

    What do you think?

Wow! The new fangled wonders of this computer age!

Thats a great idea and will be a real bonus if people look to write reviews and stuff on kit they have used etc!

I'll be up for a bit of that!

So if I write a HTML doc and save to my webspace, you can copy it direct and upload to tech section ?

What about images ? Will these be hyperliked from my webspace ? Could have bandwidth issues with that.

Nope, it'll all be here. And the great thing is, anyone else can add to it, their experiences on particular aspects, or new images. When the hardwear your article was written on gets updated, someone else can bring it up to date.

"Hang on a minute, that's MINE!" There will be times when authors don't want their stuff messed with, there's provision for that too. It's also possible to revert to a previous version of an article when someone inadvertantly (or deliberately) messes things up.

However you shouldn't need to know that, but you do at the moment to create an article..... a wiki allows you to enter the text directly in to the web page and it will sort out the html for you.
Wiki's then allow anyone else to add to or edit that page, so the theory is you get something better as a result. Its all versioned though as well and it can be rolled back if someone edits something that doesn't look right.
