    A friendly reminder

..to take it easy (especially when it's wet) after you've filled up as there are probably diesel/oil deposits on your tyre. Had an interesting almost-completely-sideways-moment this morning when I got to the first roundabout. Fortunately there was nobody in the roundabout but I missed my exit completely but was able to continue straight ahead and turn around.

Good places to expect diesel and slippyness are:

Entrance or exit to filling stations - Overfilled trucks etc.. spill diesel
Roundabouts - trucks zoom round spilling diesel..
    Bus stops..

My major accident was on a roundabout involving diesel.. Totally wrote the bike off!

I once interviewed a motorbike insurance underwriter who pointed out that no claim form ever admitted to going too fast. They always blamed diesel.
He said: 'According to motorbike insurance claims forms there's enough diesel on British Roads to fire two power stations for a year.'

sounds about right judging by the amount they liberally distribute around sheffield!!

I think anything other than getting off and walking round with the bike would be too fast on a good sized fresh spill

I once watched some poor soul come onto a roundabout at a very modest speed and end up on his arse. I wondered (no excuse, just early morning and half asleep) what he was doing as I proceeded to slide about 1/2m to the left with both wheels (simultaneously thankfully) in about the same spot. Needless to say after collecting my thoughts and my fully loaded pants I parked up and helped him get up!!

Poor sod was only test riding his mates bike, hence the precaution, for all the good it did him! Guess he binned and bought it!

only once had a little twitchy moment on a roundabout felt the back wheel go could smell diesel but managed to get my feet down and keep the bike up. Could smell the diesel. Reported in to South Wales Police who dealt with it very promptly. By the time I came back after shopping it was being sorted.

    Nasty experience

It was a spill that caused Phoenix to bin his bike. It really is crap stuff. I usually find that riding on the outside lane of one of my local roundabouts is ok as the lorries seem to use the inside lane. I had a major underwear needing changed moment once on it while on the inside lane. i was riding round on my brothers ER5 and felt the bike a bit strange, infact i thought it was very windy or something and then the rear went out from me. Thankfully i was going slow and let of the power and the bike sat up again but it tried to throw me off. I survived though so i learnt from it

Between diesel, road salt and cold tyres, it's a wonder I stay on the road at all.
