    Importing @ Australia

Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes!
My 03 @ is reluctantly for sale on this site, to complicate matters I have just been offered the chance of a job in Perth Australia.Could any one offer any advice as to importing a bike into Oz? I understand it has become more difficult for anything under 15 years old?would it be worth it or should I just do a deal in Europe and buy a bike in Oz

I have information that it is extremely difficult. The bike must be sold prior to leaving UK.

All I know is that Oz has some very stringent safety requirements for road vehicles. In this case my mate was looking to import a car to aus but gave up.

Have you tried the Australia High Commission website or the equivalent of the DVLA.

A pal of mine, Ron Grant, imported a couple of bikes into Oz from Thailand or Cambodia. I believe the import laws were prohibitive and the taxes very high. I'll send him an email and point him towards this thread, perhaps he can give you some first hand information.

My guess is that it would be better to sell up here and buy again 'down under'.

OK, I've heard back from my Oz contact. Apparently, if you've owned the bike for more than a year it's OK, you can take it into Oz without too many problems.

    Re: Importing @ Australia

    Zach here from Brisbane Oz.
I have a RD03 and they are rare here, but sought after because it suits the tough conditions here and traveling long distances. I have done things to it to make it better, but forced to get parts over the net. I am still waiting for my first order of 2 weeks ago. A chain slider. I have a list now of 3 other parts I would like to have. Is it easy for you to get parts? I am having a somewhat hard time.
I go on organised rides with overlandersmc most of the time, other times with friends. I go on a ride about once a month.
    Got to go.
    Zach
