Get a long phillips screwdriver and undo the screw inside the hollow centre of the tap (I assume you are talking about a later model Africa twin). Make sure that before you remove the tap you turn it off. Then undo the airfilter housing lid on top of the tank (four crosshead screws).
Next undo the four screws that hold the fairing to the tank. You should now be able to lift the tank slightly at the rear/seat end. Remove the fuel pipe from the bottom of the tap and the two breather pipes hanging underneath the tank.
Now the fuel pipe is off the tap, you should just (it's a tight fit, jiggle a little) be able to lift the tap clear of the frame and then pull the tank backwards and off the front frame mounts.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.
1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
