National rally

How many of you lot are taking part in the national?? Dolly and I have entered for the gold award. Not only that, but we're going for the special one (540 mile)
It would be good to get a few mobile No's and keep each other going by text, possibly put a face to a name at the finish
Any going from Wales? Must be someone out there, what with all these adventure riders

It's run in aid of mencap and is a scatter rally. Starting at 2pm on 1st july, you have 20 hrs to reach the motorcycle museum via check points from any of a wide selection of starting places. You can enter the 1 day or 2 day rally, but there is a limit to the mileage you're allowed to do on the one day run. There are strict rules regarding rests and routes (there's an inner and outer route through which you'll pass) Mileage between check points is set, and you have to plan your way very carefully as an over or under run means failure
Places are limited, it casts (I think) 23 quid and you can find out more from the mencap web site, which I don't have, so you'll have to google it. Sorry. Might be too late now, but a quick phone on monday can't hurt

I have done the national a few times, but not for about 7years now.
If you do the 2 day it can get quite tyring so make sure you have plenty of rest stops. I found the hardest part was the ride home after it is all over.
On the plus side are the great people you meet, the roads and if the weather is kind the sunset and sunrise.
Oh and riding through the night, if you are lucky you may see deer, baggers and i once saw a family of foxes trotting through the middle of Derby the around the corner a drunk singing to a lamp post

Enjoy it and ride safe.

Bill
