Africa Twin, Transalp and Varadero to be banned by EU

Let's hope MCN are just winding us up

A plan to end the superbike has been hatched by official advisors to the European Commission, which could see a ban to outlaw any bike which has more than one cylinder and a capacity greater than 650cc ... automatic gearboxes would become a legal requirement ... one of the experts responsible for the plan [is] from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

It sounds preposterous - until you read the bit that says DEFRA are involved...

fsck me, it's not a joke and not an MCN wind up

they really are recommending that only single cylinder automatics under 650cc be allowed on the road!

if those DEFRA idiots are involved we should all be a bit worried .

Going by the recent green lanes stuff they seem to be able to get what they want (tossers).

We need to stand up against this if it does come to see the light of day.

What about all the gas guzzling 4x4's. We are always the easy target

Sorry to say "I told you so" but I did (My last comments on an earlier thread about power rangers)

This is how it begins. Leak things out to the press, assess reaction by 'voters' (not bikers) start with consessions for the bikes they like while toughening laws on ones they don't, finally, a ban. Trust me guys, it's coming, and a lot of our european brothers wont care as they pop about on scooter anyway. To be honest, after witnessing last weekends antics, I'm half a mind to agree if it wasn't for the automatic bit.

Surely the manufacturers wouldnt let this happen - would they ?

all the money theyve got tied up in R&D etc...........

It will be a sad sad day if this goes through - and i dare say will lead to more people riding illeagally.

OTOH, all existing bikes over 650cc etc will be as valuable as gold dust. Think I'll go and give my Vara' a polish....

Seriously, though, I strongly suggest that everybody complains NOW. It'll be no good lamenting it later, like many of us did over rights of way (me included). Adding your name to a petition is pretty much a waste of time. Write your concerns, put them on paper and put it in an envelope!

    Nah waste of time.

In another thread there is talk about guns.

    Much better way of protest.
