    Hot weather

Here's a question about overheating but i mean me not the @!!
The last few days have been so warm that I've been cooking inside my Akito Python Jacket & trousers, boots and gloves. IF this is what its like in scotland I think I'll forget any ideas I had about touring in France.

I see some people out in tee shirts and jeans ....looks cool but I'm not into skin grafts so I like to stay protected. Can anyone advise on how to combine protection and comfort?

    Away for cool beer now!

I've got a Tuareg jacket from Hein Gericke, the goretex padded stuff zips out, leaving a jacket with protectors and leather shoulders and such that's very light and open, couple of zippers for wind to blow through, seems like a good one for the summer.

Alternatively, Polo do a Pharao Light combination along the same principle. Friend of mine has taken one of those around the Sahara for 27000 km, verdict is that it works well.

None of them are very watertight though, in fact not at all.

I've just bought a trail style jacket from Hein Gericke and it's fantastic. Large air vents on the arms, on the chest panels and the back of the jacket outer rolls down so you have a netted "window" to vent through at the back. It doesn't have goretex so it's not waterproof but I've tested it these last couple of days and I've been cool as a cucumber! (or something else even cooler..)

I've always liked the look of one of those mesh jackets - armoured for impact protection (which is main thing at road speeds) and just open nylon mesh for ventilation.

Still wearing my sturdy cow-hide leathers, but at least the jacket has got 2 long zippers on the front and 2 on the back with airy mesh behind it, gives a very good airflow while still have good protection. Works well, although I only ride when absolutely necessary in this kind of heat or take the push-bike when it's not too far away.

Turns out upon inspection my jacket has zip out panels to reveal an airflow mesh, and the padded bit comes out, wondered why it cost so much !Never really bothered to look before. leather, the dogs in a spill but soooo hot !

Yep, my Alpinestars jacket has zip-vents front and rear of each shoulder, which certainly help. Still fancy trying one of those all mesh chappers though. They're only about £60 or so.

I got a jacket where the themal liner comes out. I rode up to Southampton yesterday afternoon, and it was still baking...

My solution, open out the velcro sleeves, and untuck them from my gauntlett gloves, so they scoop air it, and up my arms... mmmmm nice....

I have one of the mesh type at home, can't remember the name offhand, made in Israel somewhere. Kevlar back, elbows & shoulders pads, in easy to remove velcro fastened internal pockets. Big scoop areas at front, forearms, armpits and exhausts at the back. Bought in Singapore, second hand-used once, for 35 quid UK. Just the jobbie for extreme temperature riding.
