    Finally! I can sleep again..

I've at last got my new chain and lock. It's an Almax chain / Squire SS65C lock combination. The chain is 16mm thick and weighs a ton. The lock itself weighs just over a kilogram. I've got a 2m and a 1m. The 2m stays at home and the 1m jobbie travels with me in a chain bag. This is how I routed it:

The 1m stretch goes through the subframe and around the exhaust. The one end of the 2m chain goes round the concrete lamp post whilst the other end is fed through the back wheel and then joins up with the 1m chain. At the front I've got an Oxford disc lock. I don't want to wake sleeping dogs but if they can get through this lot with hand tools they can have it.

    Front

Look at the size of those links!

All in all this cost me £232. I did get a serious discount on the 1m chain and the second Squire lock and the guy gave me a chain carrier bag for "free". Here's their website http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/

    Chad, you *******.

I had an image of this thing like a psycotic jack-in-the-box and spilt drink everywhere!

Ooh,... that more than my bike's worth...

I bought a veryvery cheap lock (about 13 euri's), which looks the business, but isn't... I just hope the sight of it will make thieves go away...

Thing is, if they come armed with a bolt cropper they will try to cut the chain, regardless of what the chain looks like. So I've decided to make sure that they will not be able to cut it or will have a hell of a time trying to.

    Almax Chain

...yes great locking product. No good if they don't deliver it though. Customer service has been pretty poor and I still have no chain after ordering it 10 days again. No answer to any email or voicemail either. Obviously 'we will get back to you shortly' means 'maybe sometime in the next week or so'

If it gets nicked before the Almax chain arrives I will be so p*ssed off with them....

...or do I cancel the order now and get the best lock and chain I can find locally?

Cancel. If they can't manage to do a normal order, how good will they be if you have a real problem with it?

Found this guy to be fast and excellent value, though it's slightly pot luck what is available (web site does seem to be updated to reflect actual stock available though): http://lessthan.co.uk/ e.g. "Magnum" lock and chain, 1.6m, 34 pounds. Sold Secure, Thatcham, and ART approval.
flat out on utterly inappropriate tackle

I ordered over the phone and no problems. Don't know what's causing the dealy with your chain Matt. Suggest you give them a call during office hours, although that's probably exactly what you did. Hope you get it soon mate.
