    GPS Bargains??

Toying with the idea of picking up a SatNav for the bike. Seen quite alot around, very few designed specifically for motorbikes.

The Tom Tom Rider is stil about £350. (outside my budget still, which is tops £250)

    Some Motorcycle GPS stuff here:

Wondered if anyone has any buying advice.

    Cheers.

GPS Warehouse (www.gpsw.co.uk) had some good deals recently. It was something like a StreetPilot 3 with mount and cables and such for a couple of hundred quid. Excellent value in my opinion. I've bought from GPSW a couple of times, and had excellent service from them.
It's not the age, it's the mileage...

Secondeded-ed, GPSW are good to deal with and there's a guy there who knows more about RAM mounts than is healthy!

You won't regret it Mark, it makes navimagtion much much easier and more importantly safer! Wave goodbye to driving into the back of something while trying to work out where you are on a map that's in between your legs!

    Cheers

The "StreetPilot III Deluxe Clearance Offer" looks quite a good deal.

I would imagine at this price, there are some compromises. Does anyone own one of these that can tell what I WONT be able to do with one of these, that I could with a unit £100 more...

    Cheers all..

    Got one!

    What it won't do....

Off road, you have to put a route in it, to follow an off-road route.
National grid reference, it's only lat and long, which is an issue when refering to paper maps.

    What it will do...

Get you there on road, pretty well.
    It's waterproof.

It works well for £150, and is ok for on road stuff.

Sounds like I have my decision made for me.

What's the deal with mountings.. That seems like a complex task itself, so may to choose from.

    How do others mount theirs?

Didn't someone say you get frustrated at the lack of memory space for maps?

Also presumably you can't have speed camera's on there and best of all funny voices.
Having Yoda giving you directions is quite cool.

    Yeah you're right Dave....

There is one, fixed voice, you can add waypoints but nothing else, so Points Of Interest for example don't work on it. Speed Camera's can be done, but not easily.

As far as mounting it goes, £25ish RAM mount, fixes to the handlebars, or you can pay £70ish for a lockable Touratech mount.

Do you have an intercom? You'll need some way of getting the audio out of it and into your ear as there's no built in speaker

Hmm, the lack of room for maps, and lack of easy speed camera database is a concern.

    What other options are there?

Something around £250 mark perhaps... have emailed GPSW and see what they can suggest.. if anyone has any other experiences, would be gals to hear them..
