there've been some good cheap deals from maplin lately - mate of mine bought two radios and two in-helmet kits with bar-mounted PTT buttons for not much. About £70-80 for the lot on some promotion I think.
Not the best for high speed stuff but fine for chatting up to about 50mph depending on how noisy your lid is. |

Yep - the helmet speaker&mic kits were about £30 ea, but on a buy one get one free deal. Think the radios were £50 the pair including charger base unit thingy - again probably a promo price knowing my mate.
Amazing for the money, but like I say, not the most astonishing sound quality. Suspect you get what you pay for. Will be able to give full report on their performance when I get back from the pyrenees and alps in a week and a half's time... |

Update - the kit was pretty good.
Not perfectly comfortable (tbut then inserting anything into a snug-fitting lid is never going to be perfectly comfortable) but good for chatting at anything up to about 50mph, after which wind noise was a bit much. Doing 2000-miles on gnarly roads in 8 days meant we had our helmets on for up to 10hrs a day, too. As the radios are the significant cost, nothing stopping you getting the set up as described, then upgrading the headsets at a later date. |
