    Heavy Duty Inner Tubes

I ordered some HD tubes from www.wemoto.com not quite sure what I'd get.
I been chasing down HD tubes for some time, the reason being that what one person calls a HD tube isn't what another person calls one.

The one's from Wemoto are most definately HD tubes! They are about 2 or 3 times the size in the box of previous HD tubes I've bought.
I haven't had them fitted yet, but just thought I'd recommend them if you are looking for some proper HD tubes.

    What make are they Dave?

I fitted a Pirelli tube in the front TKC and a VEE Rubber rear (Made in Thailand!!) and the Pirelli was considerably thicker.

    Cheers

The rears were Heidnault or something like that.... the people who make the cheap trail tyres and I can't remember the other one.
I'll have a look tomorrow when I'm out in the garage.

    Heavy Duty Inner Tubes

I was told HD tubes were not reccomended for road use, they get too hot and may fail. Any truth in this?

As long as they're the right size for the tyre, and at a sensibly high pressure for use on the road, I can't see why.

I've got a Michelin super HD bulletproof, fireproof, nuclear strike proof* tube on the front of my TA for the last 2000 miles and yet to have a problem....

*Well, that's what it felt like compared to the kiddies party balloon that it replaced!

It depends who told you. If it was the manufacturer of the tube... then maybe you should believe them. If it was some bloke down the pub... then maybe not.

I've read of Dakar and other desert racers having problems with Michelin bib-mooses, which will melt after prolonged high speed road work. However as the problem with bib-mooses is well known, the racers tend to put HD tubes if they know there's a long section of road coming up. On the basis that you're unlikely to be riding faster or harder than them, my personal opinion is that HD tubes are safe for use on the road. However you do so at your own risk, and all that other disclaimer stuff.
It's not the age, it's the mileage...
