    Free BHP!

    I've seen many posts about tuning these motorcycles.

    Try setting your throttle free-play then 're-gripping'.

    I first read about this in DIRTBIKE magazine in the (19!) '80s.
    You grip the throttle further round (clockwise from the right), thus when you twist it you have a longer range of movement and the throttle is more 'sensitive'.

    Save your money. Try it. I'll take a £pound for each 'seat of the pants' improvement and emmigrate to Cyprus.

    I've tried it before and it works It takes quite a bit of getting used to so the potential for boredom is slim. You also have to think about it to do it, normally not done as a rule 'cause it's not as comfortable so you tend not to when you get on you're bike.
    WARNING!!!!
    Do not try this in London traffic when you suddenly remember the turbo is switched off. You are guaranteed to travel at least 20mph when you should be travelling at 0mph. If this does occur, do not focus on the petrified old ladies facial expression whilst staring at you sideways in a Gold Nissan Micra. This could lead to you wasting time in tying to stop the already supposedly stationary bike travelling at the turbo enduced speed.
    Out of respect for you're elders it is advised that you apologize by nodding you're head in the politest possible way for the reckless behavior. Nodding of the head normally comes naturally as ones hands will be fixed on every lever on the bike. Once the hand/foot cramping has eased off, check blind spot and mirrors before setting off again.

    I ride with my hand as far around the throttle as I can get it, just feels natural to me.

    Think about trying to move you're hand even further round the throttle than what you are not thinking of already. If this fails continue not thinking about it. If it works, you will need to think about stopping

    Or fit a quick action throttle - I find "re-gripping" can be a bit of a liability, as it can then be tricky to get off the throttle quickly, as described above. One near miss accelerating hard onto a dual carriageway and nearly rear-ending a slow moving Astra made my mind up.

    Fitted quick action throttle to the TL, throttle action reduced from 100deg to 72 deg, bike is transformed, way easier and safer to ride hard.

    Never understood why manufacturers insist on fitting such small throttle tubes in the first place.

    regripping!

    Never thought of trying it on the road. I used to do it with the motocross bikes to stop me backing off but that would be tricky around town!

    Have you tried adjusting the position of the bars. This can make quite a big difference with just a slight 'twist' back or forwards. The angle you grip the throttle would then be a couple of degrees different.

    Can't be done on Dolly as I've got heated grips fitted. Price I have to pay for being an all year rider I suppose
    Anywho, Hard acceleration=greater fuel use+greater chain wear therefore a no-go for the squirrel (except as a escape option)

    God I'm getting boring When did I become my dad ??

    Heated grips won't stop you doing either (grasping the bar with your wrist joint arched so you can actually get to full throttle without breaking said wrist, or fitting a quick-action throttle to avoid all the ridiculous contortionism...).

    However, if you really don't want the performance, you could buy a smaller bike and get even better economy!!

    Dolly gives my 60MPG and isn't straining to carry me around at a steady lick. I'll take that thanks. I'll leave you young whippersnappers to your racey throttles
