    Mudwiz is famous!!!

Well, actually it's his bike but who cares? Just saw him in the new RIDE magazine. The picture is the one from our last Salisbuy Plain ride where he got seriously stuck. This is my photo of the event - not using his in case he's copyrighted it now he's famous!! Funny how he doesn't mentioned being pulled out by a Kawasaki....

I must ask - Which month? Can I still get it? How big are the photos?
(Not that I'm excited or anything!)

I'll post the story of my name in Mabels thread, but Dilbert is mostly right!

I received it through the post on Friday - think it's the November!! issue. It's got the RIDE survey results. The photo is one of the bigger ones an near the centre so it's quite prominent. Let me know if you can't find a copy and I'll post you mine when I'm through reading it.

O how low can one go! Just realised he used my photo. Why, o why did I not copyright it?? My mother warned me ...... Unfortunately RIDE cropped it a bit otherwise Anton would've been in there too.

Haven't read the whole mag but on the photo page there's no mention of the site.

If you took the photo, then you have intelectual copyright on it anyway. Get on the phone and demand they pay royalties for it ( Unless you gave it to them for them to use

It is your copyright and you are entitled to payment. You do not have to do anything to own the copyright. In law, the creator owns the copyright. That is absolutely categoric.
On the other hand, had the magazine come to you to ask permission to use it, as they should, would you have agreed without charging a fee?
Also, if Mudwiz gave them the pic and they assumed it was from him and asked permission to use it, although Ride is still technically in the wrong, it will probably sue Mudwiz for whatever damages you get. And so on....
If photography were your livelihood then having photos used without permission and payment would be important but most of us would be happy to to see our pics in print. I've asked a couple of guys on the site if I can send in their pics to a magazine. people should ask first but mistakenly think that if the pic is on the internet it is fair game and free to use.
One thing we could do is send Ride a letter about the infringement, saying while we imagine it was accidental and we're not necessarily going to demand money, it would be great if Ride could do a little piece about the site and our rideouts etc.
