    feel like a bike whore!

Unlike most of you here the AT is my first bike and although i love it very much i am constantly finding myself glancing longingly at other bikes!
i took a ride on a CB1300 the other weekend and loved it, is it normal for new bikers to look around and long for other bikes even when there is nothing wrong with their own!?

I am also drawn towards tourers and sports tourers am i normal or is this just a phase??

found myself looking at R100RSs and Pan Europeans and thinking mmm comfy when they were nest to a spanking new Vara! I even considered getting mine cleaned up and valued!!

i seek counsel from those of you with more experience in these matters!

    Been there done that...

The dommie's my first bike, it's been totally reliable and I love it to bits.

And yet, and yet and yet... I bought the GS.

    It's...

a bit faster (the dommie can't cope with extended motorway speeds),
a bit bigger (I'm just shy of 2 meters and not too lightly built),
and can haul a bit more stuff around (it's my only way of transportation, no car and p*bl*c tr*nsp*rt doesn't count)

    than the NX.

But it's been giving me no end of trouble, while the dommie has been getting back out of the shed a lot, and I can hear it quietly sniggering about the silly person and his new not-honda.

Luckily I was smart enough to keep the dommie, or I'd have been in a world of pain by now. (Bus ride is 90 mins each way if everything goes right. Har har bloody har. Bike ride is half that.)

But yes. The occasional lustful glance is normal I guess, but I keep coming back to my old beaters...

I'm the same. Infact I often find that the weeks/months/years of longing after a bike or something is often just as much fun as when you actually come to get it! You feel a bit lost for a few weeks/months/years and then you start lusting after something else!

We are talking bikes here still right?!

I still look at other mounts too.... But I always have.... I will try to keep the @ as long as poss.... or even get another one...
the only real problem is when we go 2up touring..... the @ just runs out of legs to carry us >200 miles with full luggage.....
my lady keeps looking at BMW's.... and she is right.... they do the job we want..... but for the most of my/our bike riding I would not want the added expense of BMW riding.....
The @ has been one of the most economical "serious" rides I have ever owned...

Economical... On that front the GS has been pretty good. Parts are cheap, I keep laughing when paying for stuff, cos I'm used to honda prices.

    Compare:
Carb float BMW: a tenner (euro)
Carb float Dominator: 41.50 euro ex VAT

So it's pretty cheap, pity it hasn't been very reliable lately...

Yes when I went in to my local dealer the other day and bought some bits I thought he'd added it up wrong.
I'm sure its not all like that but the Beemer parts do seem quite reasonable compared to Honda parts prices.
    Forum help and advice needed?

And it's not that hard to be cheaper than honda parts...

Honda parts seem to be priced just so that it's viable to have some guy in a rowboat come over from japan with your part ("konnichiwa") and row back to get the next part... Takes about that long, too.

That said, I've just put the GS back in the shed to tear it apart because I've completely had it, one of the carbs keeps flooding and I can't for the life of me figure out why. So it's back on the NX for the time being... Old Reliable.
