    Dakar Bikes

Ok, im not nor ever have been a big bike fanatic ... I have a reasonable knowledge, but it has its limits.

Can anyone tell me the sort of bikes that they use in the Dakar ? the KTM's are obvious, but what are the others ?

    Jason

It's not the age, it's the mileage...

Don't forget the 450s - Honda CRF Xs and Yamaha WRFs
I'm sure there's a Kawasaki KLR650 out there somewhere too.

I'd love to know if there are any 250s, there is a 250 class.

lol question is can you spot the difference between a privateer 660 and the 2006 factory 660 ( like Chris Blais is on) and then a 690!!!

... was told an interesting fact from the bods at KTM, on this 2007 event the team will haul around the entire course a total of 48 tonnes of spares to cover just the factory team!!! no chance of them running out of air filters and sticky tape i guess

Micks bike is modified Honda 450x same as Rob Van Pelt, but there are stacks of stock CRF's and XR's.

    Easy...

The bikes they bring in from the stages with helicopters due to broken gearboxes are the factory bikes

Did I see it right? One team seemed to be unwrapping a whole new engine - in the middle of a rally. How does that work?

You have to change consumables, but engines!! Surely not.

Just read Charley Boormans PD book. I used to envy those privateer bikers riding all day every day, now I feel sorry for them as well having to suffer much more than I realised and more than is shown on TV.
