    IAM Test

I have decided to do the IAM training and test and have started a blog to record my progress from start to finish. So if you're interested I have posted me first blog. (In the blog section would you believe.)

    Nice one,

I have a course in March, work make it available 4 times a year, 7 days of all day every day, with a test at the end.

    Can't wait.

its a good one to do, i used work with an examiner severial years ago and always said that i would do it too but just never got round to it..

the local branch is also home of quite a few of the police's 'Class1' driving trainers as were not far from the Bedford Police HSP traing school.

    IAM

It's one of many tests you can take after passing your original test. The IAM is definitely very helpful for anyone wishing to further their skills on the road. Everyone will learn something from the course

Good for you McVicar, you know it makes sense.

I am qualified to the much superior RoSPA (Gold) standard ...... JOKE !!!!

There is a bit of friendly rivalry between IAM and the RoSPA Advanced Drivers, but in truth the standard is probably very simmilar, both use the Roadcraft bible and both use the same standard (Police Class 1) examiners.

I have my tri-annual retest this year so hope to retain my "Gold".

Did it a few years ago, well worth it it's amazing how much you learn even if you have been riding since they used candles for headlights.

Oh and as an aside just found out that my police blue light driving course qualifies me as an IAM car driver so I'm doubly qualified

You can also use your IAM qualification and apply for a BTEC certificate.

I think the IAM gets you a "Pass with Credit" , I know the RoSPA gold lands me a "Pass with Distinction" if I wanted to apply, but unless you wanted to apply for a job as a "professional" motorcyclist , I'm not sure what the value of the BTEC is. Courier companies and the like don't bother about qualifications so it would need to be something like running blood for the transfusion service or something like that.

Sorry just another wee bit of useless info - I'm a bit of a geeky evangalist when it comes to advanced riding ...... EVERYBODY should do it.
