    Camping Stove

I'm in the market for a new camping stove. As Mrs McV is paying not too bothered about price.

What do you guys use/recommend? Thinking maybe petrol is the way to go

I've used an Optimus Hunter (blue tin) for a while, it'll burn pretty much whatever you throw at it, it'll clog up doing it but it's easily field stripped, it's got only one setting which is yeehaa, and it'll make one hell of a racket doing so.

Recently I've bought an MSR Whisperlite, which does what the other one does, except more quietly and with less hassle. It's nice.

(Still lots of hassle compared to camping gaz, but then again the petrol burner doesn't run out of go halfway through the gas tin.)

MRA multi fuel.... all the way

as seen this weekend at the meet...

I have the MRA international and will be upgrading to the multifuel.. they are small light and very powerfull. I use mine hikeing, biking and even when i am in the feild..they are that easy and fast..
reason I say the multi fuel and not the international is i like the idea of petrol as the fuel sorce, why carry two types.. this means you can cary the smallest fuel bottle and jsut fill it from the tank.. and not one that will work for the entire trip this way you save on space and weight...
besides if it is good enough for use in the antarctic it is good enough for the uk.

I was a fan of Trangias until me, Chad, Vader, and Richie B were sat out at the last national meet at 2.00am in the freezing cold when Chad got his stove out, got it going, and we all sat round enjoying the warmth and watching the flames. So as well as fuel advantages and everything Chad says it is very versatile working as a Patio heater as well.

MRA international? Don't you mean the MSR whisperlite international?

[edit: Right. So you did. ]

That'll run on regular petrol, it'll just turn black and you'll have to shake it a bit more than with coleman fuel. (Shaker Jet is nice.)

The nice thing about the whisperlite is that you can fire one up for your morning tea without pissing off every single person within a 300 meter radius as you will with a roarer burner.

Yet another vote for the MSR.
Works off the same stuff as the bike, which always seems to make sense to me!

I run a MSR whisperlite as well, small, light and with a metre of tube in the bag a 19L fuel supply.
Take time to master using them, the pressure in the bottle makes a huge difference in your cooking.

Not cheap but worth every penny
And you might have some spare fuel if the bike runs out first.

    Here's a tip then:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=180079434509

I bought two from this guy the past summer. No problems there, this guy's ok.

It's a complete set, you usually have to buy the bottle separately, and what with the dollar being a pittance lately it's quite a good deal, especially if it manages to sneak past customs on the way in.
