    TRAVEL TAX

There are only 12 days left to register your objection to the 'Pay as you go' road tax ˆ which closes to petitions on the 20th February 2007. The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at this time only 671,354 people have signed it so far and 750,000 signatures are required to stop them introducing it. Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition. Democracy in action? The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your bike / car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible." http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/ PLEASE sign up...

That's a really convincing argument. A mum with nothing else to do all day, but who is so lazy she drives her kids to school in her Chelsea Tractor. The faster these people are priced off the road the better for us all.
Kids should walk/cycle to school and for most, that is perfectly possible.

It would be very unlikely that this, or any government would force road users to retro fit a tracing device. Even when they create a new category of excise duty for vehicles, it's only on vehicles registered after the date of the introduction that pay the higher duty.
It may be a compulsory fitment on new vehicles but doubt this in the short term.

Plus I'm for the tax, sorry, but I feel we should pay for what we use, as a biker I'm sure if this taxation system did come in we would pay a reduced rate., and anything to tax all the Chelsea tractors off the road can only be a good thing.

i'd be happy to be taxed for road use in this way, but dont trust the government 1 bit that they wont use it for checking your wherabouts and speeds etc ................ As well as the risk of being nabbed by all the additional cameras popping up now (the A14 is having a 14 mile stretch of specs cameras installed )

At the end of each month youd get a bill and oh look you exceeded the speed limit x no. of times thatll be an additional £???? thankyou very much

I know that if you dont speed, you wont get caught, but with the busy lifestyles we lead, it is necessary to 'push on a bit' sometimes.

I hope this never comes to anything, but if it does, i shall be removing said device and modifying it with a big **** off hammer and posting it to no 10 downing street in little pieces I hope everyone else would do the same

I'm sure Whealie and russh can think of good reasons... but they won't be the ones making the decisions.

Just think about who will be deciding whether what you do is reasonable and whether you should be priced off the road...
flat out on utterly inappropriate tackle

    And hence the problem

People cant agree, always blame someone else, the mother with kids, Chelsea tractors etc.

Splits people so government can do what they want

We pay as we go already, its called fuel tax. Government could increase that and cover any costs and not have to spend ant extra collecting it

So why introduce a black box? Must be other reasons as the lead on this sez.

Isn't the Africa Twin a Chelsea Tractor. Why not get a CB250, doing everyting your doing on an AT at half the cost? That argeument is ****. I'd have one if I could afford it.

Here - Here to that, we see someone else as the problem, others see us as the problem, and while we're divided the Government can pick you off one group at a time.

I have had legally owned valuable possessions taken from me by the government and given a pittance as compensation , and had restrictions placed on my privacy and liberty that would shame a police state.

What was my crime ??? shock horror !! I was a target shooter, winning medals for my country. And while I and my fellow shots were being persecuted and hounded out of our sport, everyone else including other branches of shooting , stood and watched thinking "thank god it's not me".

As a nation we are easily divided and accept draconian legislation because we think it only impacts others. Then "THEY" pick on you ..........and YOU look for support .............
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!
