    Filtering

Okay comeing down the M6 yesterday, I started filtering. All was fine, of course the volvoes and Audis were dikheads. But I am cutting in out of trafic with out really thing about what i was doing then i notice that the trafic had speed up and i was still filtering at 70mph. So i yell at my self and get in lane.. next thing i know the trafic had slowed down but i did not.... so times.. I should not be alowed on a bike.... .

I think i was the power rush i got when the lamborgini pulled out of my way...

We all do it every now and then it's being able to recognise that you are riding like an arse and then dealing with it but riding more responsibly

    Nope... Just an arse

Its a tough question... At what speed should you stop filtering? (Bet PLODs gonna have something to say here!)

As a Rule for me... 40-50ish... But I live on Motorways at the moment, and sometimes you've just gotta get around the Volvo doing 69mph in the Outside lane...

    OK Shoot me down people!

Heyho, I for one think it's down to the road on the day. Sometimes the situation dictates things. I'd much rather filter fast if it feels safe than get sandwiched in a queue where it doesn't.
What I mean is, sometimes the traffic might be moving at say 40mph, but everyone's nose to tail. Then I much rather filter off in the space between where I have 1)better vision ahead, 2) an escape route. Generally cars crunch bumper to bumper, not side to side.
That said If things are moving at 40mph and I've space around me in my lane, I'm quite happy to plod on with the other drones. This isn't about getting ahead, it's about a safety zone around me.
Well thats my theory anywho And in 26 years it's done me alright so far (Oh no I've tempted the fate police I'll be in a pile up by the end of the week now)

Best part about having the A3 as my stomping ground for a year was filtering at 70 - 80...

I'm not going to lecture you about filtering, but there's a solution to this problem for people who don't want to filter in that sort of situation. Occupy a lane, preferably towards one side or the other, and be prepared to move up alongside the car in front if the traffic suddenly slows.

You're right that it's best not to be directly behind another vehicle that's stationary, or suddenly braking. In the past I've had to vacate spaces pretty sharp, as they were about to become occupied by the person behind who wasn't going to stop in time.

I'm also eternally grateful to the person who once vacated the space I was about to occupy when I wasn't going to stop on time In my defence I was trying to evade a third party who was coming at me at even higher speed from behind but it was still a f*** up on my part.

Still, it taught me a lesson, that the f***wit you see coming might just be running a diversion for a bigger danger (even if it's only the cock up you're about to make yourself).

Two days ago I was confronted by an oncoming car that was waiting to turn right into a turning to my left, whilst at the same time another car was wanting to pull out of that turning. Being potentially stuck between the two, either of whom could have had me off, wasn't comfortable.

But actually they were both fine. The actual danger in this situation was that there was a bus behind the right-turning car, and behind that someone who must have thought the bus was pulling in, so he pulled out and overtook the bus, right into my path
