    UK Provisional Licence In ROI??

    Hey guys!

Does anyone know if there are provisions for Northern Ireland Provisional licence holders to drive in the Republic?

I know generally you cannot travel outside your own country on a provisional, just hoping there may be an exception for the residents of Eire.

Sorry you didn't get a reply. I've just seen your post now.
Oh and welcome to the site.
From Eire to NI it's officially NO but I've never heard of anyone being stopped. It probably makes it easier that down here we don't wear L plates and aren't visible.
The other way around I'm sorry, I don't know.

I believe it's the insurance that's the problem... whether or not the licence is valid.

Yeah, its the insurance i would have been worried about. I was planning to get a licence in NI as it takes so long to get a test in ROI, but ive since decided on a ROI licence, and done the test prety quick (surprisingly) about 3 weeks ago. Oh and passed (not before some heartache on the day).

    Cheers guys.
