Clearly headed for BBC Two! Interesting! I didn't notice this previously on the main web site, but the trip is sponsored inter alia by the BBC!

IIRC "Long Way Round" was pencilled in for terrestrial TV but never made it; Sky One (satellite and cable) only.

Did "Race to Dakar" even make it that far? Perhaps on a minority channel?

Evidently BBC believes there will be enough interest in the new series to broadcast it on Two.

I think the LWD website is good - will get better once theres some more stuff on it regarding the trip.

There is a rough google earth route on the bbc site - i had a look at some of the places they will travel through and this SHOCKED me (I new things were bad in some of those places, but check out the AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCY):

    Botswana
    Fast Facts
    • 600,370 square kilometres, more than twice as big as the UK
    • 1.6 million people, with an average life expectancy of 33 years
    • 24,455km of roads, 36% of them paved
Imagine you and your mates potentially all being 6 feet under by 33
