    First ever bike/scooter???

    Hi everyone.

What was your first ever bike that you owned and what's your best memory of it?

    Mine?

It was a Simpson MZ50 and the best memory was the firt time I rode it from Manchester to Blackpool on the A roads. Top speed of 38 mph it got me there in a few hours.....Now they were the days

First bike i owned was an Aprilia Pegaso 650. Had a lovely pair of stainless steel Predator cans and sounds brill! Had great fun on it, more of a super moto than a trailie though. Drove me mad using it in traffic as the engine really needed re-jetted etc with cans so it was very jercky and the suspension was not that great. Wasn't thinking of really selling it but saw my current @ and bought it. Eventually sold the Pegaso to my wee bro as his first bike. He had is a few months and then something went snap in the engine and took out lots of other bits. Was only good as scrap. I felt rather bad i must say. But he ended up getting all his money back by breaking it down and selling it in bits.

Vespa Primavera 125. Unlike the scooter boys and mods, who all seemed to have 50CC bikes but with loud pipes, I had a scruffy, unadorned 125. They sat next to me at traffic lights revving their screaming engines and with their Davey Crocket racoon tails dangling from their helmets. They left on amber and I waited until green and then disappeared past them.
I had a top speed (tucked in behind a lorry) of just over 70mph. I'd get to just over 70mph, pull out to overtake the lorry and be wind-rushed back to 150 yards behind the lorry again and pull back in behind it .
Rode to London on it (from Portsmouth) when I went to uni and kept it throughout my first year but took to too much drinking to make having it any use.

Pee Wee 50 ..best memory was beating my dad on his cr250 across the top paddock.. It was not fair as he came off as to not hit the sheep that i scared (he gave me a 1/2 field handycap), and twisted his ankle.. but bugger it i beat him.. I then went up through the ranks some honda 90 (something which was a bike my dad built from scrap) Suzuki 100 (ag bike...) then my first love Cr125!!!!! then i could really beat him across the all the paddocks, then xl250, then Honda shadow 500 (16 yr old rebel teenager.. i thought i was soooooo hard on that cruiser!)..

LOL, Sounds like me on my XS250 ratty when I first started couriering. One time tried so desperately to overtake one lorry that I bent a valve and she never quite started right again.

    nice bikes guys...

I had an 82 XL185, the old twin shocker. It was bought a few months before my 15th b'day, the earliest age to get a licence here in those days. Got it in an auction for city council vehicles, this one used accross farms and country roads for surveying etc...

Looked a bit rough but really straight, turn out the filth on the bike was layers and layers of CRC or WD protecting everything super well. Once rubbed off the bike was quite shiny and new.

Rode it everywhere and cruised to school past my mates on their bicycles, after a bit I realised I could clip them upside the back of their heads as I flew by. Love of bikes sealed forever.

Still fond of XL's, nearly bought an XLV750 last year before realising I could afford an @.

As mentioned on another thread my first bike was a Honda 250G5 1974 model exactly the same as in the attached thumbnail same colour and everything . The bollox back in the days when you bought a 250 and a set of L plates and just WENT !!!!!!. Too many good memories to list. Not as fast as my mates on their 2 strokes , but it stayed on the road when they had to perform strip downs and rebores.

But I cannot forget how cold you got in the winter with just a Belstaf waxed jacket and pre thinsulate gloves !! one night I was so cold that I never noticed that I sliced my thumb open on the petrol cap at a filling station and never noticed till I got home and emptied about half a pint of blood oot o' my glove !! yeuch !!

    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

My first bike, all 49cc of power, (restricted to 35mph!) a Suzuki TS50K,

I thought I was the bees knees on this until I caught a glimpse of myself in a shop window, all 6'2" on the worlds smallest bike I looked like a grasshopper mating a matchstick, or so I was told!

I remember getting up at 6.00am on my 16th birthday to get out on the road. Wow it felt fast, as only 2.5bhp could.

Soon whipped out the baffles but was quite disappointed as it didn't liberate the extra 5 bhp I was told, did a good job of annoying the neighbours though, I think the most I ever got out of it was 37mph !

Oh, I forgot the cold, on my 12 mile trek to work at 37mph, the coldest tempature measured in England for years, measured at RAF Benson of -15 dec C or (something like that.) And I rode past the RAF camp that morning with the Wax cotton jacket and just some PVC waterproof trousers to keep the wind off my legs, Stadium open face helmet, my eyes were watering and the tears freezing so I had to keep stopping to defrost my eyes, and as for hands as wee jack say pre thinsulate. Luckily I had just got a job as an assistant photographer, so I would get to work and sit in the 6 foot tall film drying cabinet to thaw.

Thinsulate, goretex and heated grips, kids don't know they are born today!!
