    idiot of the year award

Hey folks, I am nominating myself for idiot of the year award. If you remember a few weeks back I got a flat, and had to change the inner tube and had lots of issue getting it to seat correctly. Any way finally got it all set, and things seemed okay except the tyre seemed a little off balance. I also noted at the time that the Avons were low enough to justify getting a new set of TKC !!! So did not worry too much about the unbalancing as I new I would change them over in couple on weeks. So I clean up my tools and could not find my short tyre lever, I assumed that I just kicked in to bushes and did not worry. Well Friday my TKC arrived and I decided to put them on yesterday… So I pull off the front wheel and notice that it is a bit herniated.. ahh I say that is why it feel so off balance. Oh well I am putting new rubber on anyway… So I proceed to pull off the tyre.. .OH SH!T guess what I find in the tyre.. my short lever!!!
So how it fell in when I last fixed the flat I dont know but there yo go! I am quite lucky cus I have done about 200 mile with it in there…
So my new TKc front is now on and whoa.. it is running smooth…

I the rear was an absolute nightmare! The previous owner put Avon Distenzia on the rear..which is s steel belted tubeless tyre on, and used more then just tyre soap to “glue it on” I bent one of my levers (see pic to follow), and literally had to cut the tyre off and remove a 1 inch section before the tyre levers could then pry off the steel rim in the tyres. Cutting the 1 inch section broke the tip off of my bolt cutters, I had to use one of my tungsten drill bits to “soften” the cable before I could get thought..It was a nightmare.. .. But there is no damage to the rim after all the sh1t.. still have not finished rimming the new tkc cus it started to piss down… and now it is sitting in my living room

Cant wait to try them out....
    Salsbury plans here we come...
New shockers should be here next week too!

    Wonderful!
That's worse than my snapping of 3 bolts before I worked out the torque wrench was seized!

I know it's only May, but that's certainly gonna take some beating!

BTW, did you check that all your drill bits, bolt cutters etc. were present and correct after fitting your new tyre?

This is why doctors now count all their implements after operations, and swabs and sponges and everything else. If they cannot find the right number they get all panicky because it means they may have to open up the patient's wound and look inside.
Still, its a step up from me. I usually put everything back together and have a few bits left over.

Well, certainly a new one on me!

I'd just like to take this moment to point out the inherant dangers of DIY mechanics. A young guy with a sportsbike died a few miles from my house after some routine maintenance had been carried out on his bike. The rumours are his chain had been adjusted incorrectly and had came off mid corner. This ended in his demise.
A tyre lever in beside the tube could have caused catastrophic tube/tyre failure at speed, I'm glad you lived to tell the tale mate, but I'd like to highlight the possible danger it could have been.

Please all take great care out there, there's enough to go wrong without increasing the odds against yourself. I get very unsettled if I can't find tools etc after working on any bike and will not rest until it's found. Sorry for the serious note but if it results in one less casualty this year my job is done!

I lost a whole large torque wrench for a year once, convinced I'd lent it to someone, I questioned everyone I knew who had a bike, but they all denied it. Anyway, when I got the box of christmas decorations down from the loft in december it was in with them. I still don't know how that happened, but suspected my toddler (at the time, he's all hairy and leather jacketed this week) son
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.
