Angry Loose bike licence at 70

I was just looking at things on the net and came across something.
Either it is proposed , or it is now law, that when you reach 70 years old they take away your bike licence.
Any one know if there is any truth in this.

At 70 you won't be able to remember where you put it anyway! Come to think of it, I'm 41 and couldn't tell you where mine is right now.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

dont specifically now about bike licences, but i do think at 60+ you should be made to retest every 5 years so sooner!!... the number of OAP drivers that seam oblivious to other road users is frightening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Normal license procedures is that at the age of 70 you have to renew the license every couple (I think) years. The renewal process includes a letter report from your doctor. That'#s why everyone license expires at the age of 70.

Unless it's changed recently but will check up on it.

renewal and retest are totally different things though... how many GP's do you know that sit in with their patients?... maybe it should be a new law that when you have a heart attack you have to drive yourself to A&E and the GP can assess your driving at the same time?..

Actually just checked up on it and you don;t even need a medical check, any medical issues that prevent you from driving is voluntary disclosure. Unless it's a C1 or D1 licence then you do need the medical form.

I think the medical is a good idea but to automatically assume old folks cant drive thats crazy worst driving I have seen is by younger folks.

I think a good idea would be the american format where when you have to renew your licence you have to at least take an eye test. I also think the reaction test as any new driver has to take now would also be a good idea.
