great if you want to go for a blast down country lanes but thats it
hopefully doing ADI test later this year with a view to going onto instructor training
    what would you buy???
fancie an africa twin but would they be too heavy for all the plodding around i'd have to do whilst i'm training?
used to have a dominator & loved it, but want something with abit more guts, but not as much as me CBR!!

I do lots of slow town work on my @ and she handles it well. the wide bars make her very stable and comfortable.

When I did my part time DAS and CBT teaching I had my first AT and it was brilliant for doing confident u-turns in front of pupils. Also it gave me a much better view forward with the extra height and the mirrors are very good for watching the pupil behind at the same time as the one in front when on the road.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

My trainer had an @ and he loved it.I bought if off him when i passed my test cause he was the kind who changed models every 6 months.I went from the 125 training bike onto the @ in one 'high' jump.wow!that was 12 years ago now and i still remember the fear it gave me......turned out to be a great bike though because slow speed handling is great and they are very stable at tight slow turns because of the wide bars.....

Your going to need something reliable ........... so it's a Honda.

You don't need to go fast .................. so nothing bigger than 650cc

You'll be out in all weathers ..................so a bit of protection.

You'll be carrying batteries for radios and paperwork ...... so cases

Sounds like and old 650 Deauville or a Transalp to me.

For instructor work the shaft drive on the deauville would swing it for me,
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

There's a training school near here run by a bike cop, as are all his instructors, they use deauvilles.

You'ra all gonna hate me for this but...
    Nissan Micra,Toyota (little one)or
    Renault Clio!!!!
    (towbar essential)!!!

My mate is an instructor and takes the bikes to the various meeting points for students (hence the towbar, hence the car). The majority of the lessons are in the evening (when poeple finish work)which is fine in summer but in winter....... 4-5 hours, in the dark, wet cold outside. And when the student turns up with neither helmet, gloves, jacket for thier lesson he can just open the boot and hey presto, he has a couple of spare sets ready and waiting.
It is possible and practical to follow two (sometimes more!) students (obviously relatively skilled students, not complete novices) in a little car through town, creating a natural rear defensive barrier and have the office on the passanger seat next to you.

OK now for the plus side,my mate DOES use his bike for some of the lessons but I wont tell you what it is cause its not a twin (sound like Banned It); but its got luggage for all the stuff he carries.

I love the twin cause its got great crawler potential for slow traffic and low speed manouvers.
