    motorcycle instructor

Hi guys, looking at doing a instructor course, cbt1, then DAS, at Cardington.
Just wanted to know has anyone done this, or worked as a instructor full time? Any input would be great. Thanks.

I worked part time teaching CBT and DAS when DAS first came out. Had to spend a day at Cardington being tested as a DAS instructor (what happened is on here somewhere) with no idea of what they wanted after only teaching CBT for a few weeks. I passed though, so it couldn't have been that hard.

The training to be a CBT instructor took a week I think. It included riding around on 125s with L plates, I'd forgotten how humiliating that can be when cruel children are about. On the plus side, those SR125s were thrashed to within an inch of their lives by us which must have been a welcome change from wobbling about in 1st gear all day.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

    Re: motorcycle instructor

    Hey Wayne

I work as an instructor in Ireland where we have no regulation at present and no CBT. So as a result it is quite hard to make a living out of it here. I have no experience of the CBT and DAS courses but have successfully completed the RoSPA Diploma in Advanced Instruction. What I would say to you is this, it is without a shadow of a doubt the most rewarding job I have ever had. Even after spending a full day out on the road in the lashing rain I come home happy. Any hassles with unresponsive students and adverse weather are completely outshone by the smile on the face of a single student who masters the most simple of tasks.

Go for it, but remember the job carries a level of responsibility like no other. Each Student puts their life in your hands.

And the question I ask anyone who shows an interest in being an instructor is....
What is the worst thing that can happen to a bike instructor?

Answer: Standing in a coroner's court trying to explain why someone's son or daughter is dead.
