    Manhole covers on corners!!!

Why oh why do they put inspection or manhole covers on corners.

If you ride over one when its raining oil and diesel the old heartbeat red-lines and very slowly drops back to normal... cant be healthy.

String up the engineers I say, or any one remotely responsible. Ive had enough near falls when the metal plates have proven unavoidable, and I cant clench the same anymore.

Shortest line A to B, right through the apex... engineer's solution and technically 'correct' according to their criteria. Well, that's what they told me, anyway

    Re: Manhole covers on corners!!!

I often cycle commute , (many of you will have heard me mention this) and I love to cycle a moor road between home / work / home.

Now this road has "thoozands" of miles of open moor on the left and "thoozands" on the right, with absolutely bugger all in it except grass !! And when they needed to put in a new watermain along the route, where did they put it ???- you guessed it , right up the middle of the single track road !!!! I just can't figure it ??? why oh why can they not put it to one side or the other along the side of the road ??.

Thanks for a good post to rant on .

I'm glad the UK is not alone in thoughtless utilities engineering.

It was either two years ago, or maybe three (at the outside) that road planners were first instructed by law to take into consideration motorcyclists when designing roads. So, all roads designed before then (and that's all of them bar one or two quiet residential streets opened in the past couple of years) were designed without giving a flying f*** about bikers.
