    Off road training course

    Hello Folks,

Can anyone recommend a "off" road training course(s) ( preferable the south west or Wales area) for a off road virgin

    Cheers

    Billy

    Re: Off road training course

    Billy,

I am on the WorldofBMW Level 1 Off-Road course in South Wales on 16/17th September. They are fully booked for the rest of the year but give them a call. The course is EXCELLENT! You need a full bike licence and be fit enough for a two day biking event. The Level 1 is not a tick in the box course but the instructors moderate the pace to suit all students. The group of students is split into three biking abilities (two instructors for each group) so no one should feel that it is beyond their capabilities. I will be doing my second Level 1 course this year. Best of luck.

Heartily recommend the World of BMW course - excellent couple of days with probably the most experienced instructors available in the UK.

Even if you've never even ridden up a kerb before this course will ease you into the world of mud and firetrails.............perfect for Green Laning in the UK.

So, you enjoyed it then, Jonathon?

How'd you get on with the big GS?

No Jenna, That's not the way it works. You do all the research and post the advice here. We then all F-off to Spain on a jolly on the pretext that it is cheaper than going to Wales (and much sunnier).
BTW. I emailed the BMW people about a group day and a discount and I heard nothing. Bastards!

Great fun - I had the 1200GS for the two days.

It's such a different machine to the @ - you're sitting in the bike rather than on it like the @ - and it felt small as well.

I suppose the best thing is that you do tend to develop larger 'cojones' as you have no fear about launching a new BMW down a Welsh mountain as it's not yours and you don't have to ride it home.

The GS is certainly not indestructable though - two holed sumps (yes - even through a TT sumpguard) and a holed cylinder head, all low speed off's and from a small group of 5 riders.

It was the torque that impressed me most - any incline, pretty much any gear, it would still pull my fat arse up and over any obstacle.......

All in all great fun - and I had the particular pleasure of being the only rider in my group NOT wearing BMW Rallye kit

Simon - are we going to have the pleasure of seeing you at Poole Bike Night this year..............(just don't follow Cie - I'm sure he has a dodgy Zumo....... )

talk directly with Si and not the monkey's there. I can give you his direct email if its any help.

not really looked at the courses in spain to much (cough cough.. ) but if anyone wants a dogs danglies of a course then i can recommend the ones run by Ian Burgess (think he trades as Redtread) especially if your smart enough to book for early Jan as your instructor will be none other than Mick Extance!!!.....

I also had a list of other 'courses' run by some of the dakar boys and girls (Patsy Quick & Si, think Nick Plumb, Mick Extance is on it too, etc etc) see if i can find it.
