    Can't make National.

Sorry but i wont be able to make it to the National meet now. Was riding back to Plymouth from Portsmouth on Thu evening and had a problem with the bike.
Firstly a horrible stink of rotten eggs and then i lost all electrics. Pulled over and took the seat off to see steam comming from the sealed battery which had popped its lid. It was so hot i couldnt get it out of the bike even with my gloves on. 20 mins later i managed to get it out.
The recovery guy thought it was a problem with the rectifier/regulator that had overcharged the battery causing it to boil dry and explode.
Bottom line is the guy who does my bikes can't collect her till Tue night and won't be able to work on her till next week-end. Bugger!!
Hope you all have a good time and i look forward to reading all the reports.
Chad we will get to meet in person and have that beer one day!!

Hell bells Seawolf ... that's a bummer.. ..is there anyone else nearby with a rectifier that could get you mobile again? I know they are not cheap, but there could be a secong hand one lying around...

Can get one on line for £55 but dont know how much other damage may have been done to the electrical system till its checked out. Fingers crossed it aint going to be too expensive as i bought a drz 400 last month and im skint. Such is life!

Probably no damage at all to the rest of the electrical system. The regulator/rectifier connects directly to the battery so the battery would have got the main brunt of it. The only other thing it's likely to effect is the ignitor/ecu but if the bike was running OK when you stopped then that should be fine.

It's one of the reasons as to why I do not like Gel Cells (sealed batteries). They tend to go pop as soon as the voltage is slightly higher than normal or even if there's a ripple in the circuit (one of the reasons as to why they say don't use a normal battery charger on gell cells)

Just replace the regulator/rectifier, shove on a new battery and when you first start it up get a voltmeter across the battery, if it show's less than 15v then you're fine.

hmmmm what can we do to get this bike going have you got the rect reg and battery yet????

as kymmy most likely no damage just a mess from the battery all this stuff is an easy fix dude.. the rect reg is a straight unbolt unplug rebolt and replug the new unit ...and i know you can change a battery

the rect reg is under the left hand (as you sit on the bike) seat panel

comon dude you know you can do it

any problems pm me and we will see what we can do

Sorry to hear of your troubles Seawolf.

You could always bring the CB1300 if all else fails, shame to miss out.

Chad. Haven't got batt or rect/reg. Rod who does all the works on my bikes is collecting her on Tue night. Problem i have is i have to travel back to Portsmouth tomorrow night, so will have to use the car. Was going to ride up to Dent from Portsmouth on Thu pm after work but as bike not going to be ready till at least next week-end i'm a bit snookered.
Just have to arrange a week-end up your way later on in the year.
    Thanks for the support though.
