Best and cheapest way is to get your insurance comanies to quote for cover not including breakdown, then go elsewhere like AA or RAC where they cover the member and not the vehicle. Doing it this way saves you a lot more for the more vehicles you have.

No way Jose. I have the AA cover but they are crap with bikes and specifically crap with our bikes. When they say they know a man who can, they literally mean it. There is one man in every region who knows about bikes and he is about three and half hours away from where you are. He will get to you, but you will have been sitting on the grass verge in the dark and cold for several hours and you will be dripping in dew.
And then he'll tell you that the AA does not, under any circumstances, fix punctures on spoked-wheel tyres .

    Re: Breakdown cover

I suppose I've alway used them as "I don;t care if you can fix it I'd rather do it myself once you've got me home!!!"

I know that Carole Nash does car insurance as well (or they did do) does thier breakdown cover cover the driver/rider?? Just that Jen and I have major problems with cover, ranging from refusal for family cover as it's a same sex partnership and also the turn-over/range of vehicles...in the last 3 years we've had 6 bikes and 8 cars....A right pain in the ar$e for cover if they insist on covering the vehicles and not the driver.

    Kymmy

PS..AA/RAC was a suggestion as to thier type of cover and not a recommendation

The ETA http://www.eta.co.uk/ seem to be willing to recover pretty much anything; we have a policy that covers us while we are using anything belonging to anyone, including cars, bikes and even bicycles, which is useful. carrying a broken tandem home is less than funny without a friendly van, and they are very friendly.

I have used NCi recovery, which is advertised in MCN, for the last 5 years and cant fault them. 4 years ago i got a puncture in deepest Cornwall and they sorted me out promptly. 2 weeks ago my @T rectifier shat itself and fried my battery. I was in the recovery vehicle on my way home within an hour. I have personal cover which covers me for any vehicle im in or on.
Check out MCN for more details.

Try Brittania Rescue they cover both cars and bikes if you take out the personal cover where anything you ride/drive is covered.

They do european cover too but only on the vehicle you specify but you can still have the personal cover so that all vehicles are covered in the UK too.

    Re: Breakdown cover

My clutch gave up a few miles from Dent on the way back to london.....

I've got roadside assistance and relay cover.

1 1/2 hours later AA contractor recovered me and the bike to Blackpool, gave me a courtesy car ( I had to put fuel in) to drive home and delivered the bike to my house the following afternoon.

Only downside...they strapped it down using the crash bars and dislodged them...they'll go back OK.

    I'm happy...

    It's not a mid-life crisis....I dunno what it is.....

I've been with them for about 20 years now, always been excellent on cars and bikes (I got the personal cover).
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/34,000 miles ridden (of 57,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
