From the Times
May they rest in peace .......
The midnight news (R4) just said 3 others were in the craft with the pilot.
There were no survivors.

Very sad - he was a true gentleman.
Such a shame, one of life good guys...![]()
Just seen this --- I am absolutely gutted, saw him rallying locally many times.
A true ambassador for the sport and for Scotland.

Free beers tomorrow !!!
I only got into Rallying as McRae and Burns were battling for the championship. Rallying never seemed the same after he was dropped from Citreon and Burns had retired due to his brain tumour.
Maybe they are both tearing up heaven as we speak![]()
I am led to believe that the helicopter lost a rotor blade as it came into land at the family farm, Colin,Johnny and two others ( its thought one is from is race team) killing all 4 on impact although these details are still not 'official'..
Motorsport is littered with deaths, by its nature it pushes man and machine to the limit not just once but continuously and this fact is over time easy to forget. I wont be hypercritical and say I was a massive fan of Colin as its well known i wasn't (not the time or place for the reasons why) however i can say that I always respected him, he had a unique ability to make the very best of what could be a very bad situation, he was always unique in his approach and although often not the easiest to work with was a driver that will always be loved by the fans.
