I was just wondering if there are any other RoSPA advanced riders on the site. I have a question regarding certificates I need clarified before I rant at Edgebaston.

I can't help you out, as I'm only starting on Saturday, but if you need help from an impartial senior observer, let me know the details and I'll get back to you

Yeah, did the IAM bit, now to up the standard

My observer is a good friend I ride with a lot, he offered, seemed silly not to, I like the idea of a 2 year re-test. They also seem to be about safety rather than progressing as quickly as possible within the law.

Anyway, the offer stands, I can ask my observer anything you like. Just let me know.

Excellent Cie !! I think your doing the wise thing - but I'm biased

I do believe that the RoSPA standards are higher ( or progress higher ) than the basic IAM qualification. But don't get me wrong - there is nowt wrong with the IAM standards any advancement in riding standards is good.

I'll have to look it up , but I'll post a quote from the Edexcel / BTEC accreditation documents for the Advanced Riding award to show what I'm trying to articulate about the RoSPA process enabling you to progress further ....................

Are they the one who go round insisting that everyone who ever fell off their bike had done so because they had ridden badly or failed to maintain their bikes?

Here it is .............. Pass qualifications only can be awarded for RoSPA bronze grade certificate and IAM and DIA Advanced certificates. Those qualifications meet an agreed common standard. A Merit pass qualification will be awarded to RoSPA Silver grade holders and a Distinction to RoSPA Gold and Police Advanced certificate holders.................

So there you have it CIE.............. go CIE go - reach for the stars - go for that RoSPA Gold award ......... and then we can have a "Bores" Huddle on here

NOT insisting - just suggesting ..............

Don't you try to stir that one up again Whealie .

Someday when we are all sitting with a glass in hand I'll explain to you the theory that there is no such thing as an accident - everything that is described as "an accident" is in fact a "cause-ident". Somewhere in the process of that "mishap" there is always human error - BUT not always the error of the victim , obviously.

a classic example - " I had an accident, and fell off on that bend because the bend tightened up as I was going round it" how often have you heard that ?? .................. but the bend didn't tighten-up , it's not an animated object that changes shape, the bend was the same radius as it was when the navvies made it. The "accident" was "caused" because the driver did not approach it properly - simple human error.

The "sorry did not see you mate is the classic bike/car encounter where the biker see's human error -the "cause-ident" !! and the driver see's it as an "accident".
