    Being off sick from work...

... any of you any good at it?

    I've just realised I'm NOT !!!!

I enjoy good health thank God so not normally ill or sick ...

Woke up this morning feeling like a dogs dinner - phoned into work to tell them I'd be running a bit late as I felt lousy and needed a bit of time to gather myself together. The service director told me to go back to bed and have a day off.

    Great.

The sun's shining and the bikes just outside the window softly callng my name.

I feel a bit better after steaming my head over a bowl of boiling hot water and vicks for an hour.

So yahoooooooo .... I'm off out on the bike to play on the essex lanes I thinks ....

    ... except Im not.

I'm just about to head into to work coz Ive had to accept that every second of the ride I'd be feeling guilty and thinking of all the things I should be doing today at work and the people that are going to be delayed/affected somehow by me not being there.

    Crap...........

I used to be great at having sickies and "duvet days".

However, now I'm self-employed and don't get paid I'm rubbish at it and don't do it!

When I broke my collar bone and asked the doc if the sling could be adjusted so I could work, he said: "You want to work? We don't hear that in Lewisham very often."
The only time I enjoyed being off work was the last rugby World Cup when I had a broken wrist and watched all the matches on freeview every morning - Japan and Fiji and games like that.

I had a mate who did this, he would come into work when quite ill, when he did have a day off everyone thought he must be really ill, when in fact he would be totally well, his motto was why be ill in your own time

I think that it is the students that got me sick so...
Bless them, we get 15,000 through the doors here, every September they bring their lovely little virus's from around the globe, they all seem to make a beeline for my nose and throat! Fresher flu

I can normally manage it without too much trouble. My thoughts normally go along the lines of:
    1. If I go work feeling like rubbish I won't get much done anyway.
    2. I'll pass on my germs to everybody else. I hate it when people drag themselves into work with cold and infect me.
    3. I'm not that important. People can cope without me for a day or two. Or if they can't, now's a chance for them to start practising.

Stop sticking their virus infected bits in those orifices then. Bloody lecherous lecturers.

I like this . I'd never thought of that, I just continue to go to work ill, and don't get "me" time. Might have to try that sometime.
