I noticed on XRV that there was a clique of people who seemed to dominate parts of the site....full of in-jokes and hostile to others they chose not to like.There was one newbie who they accused of being someone else they didnt like and they gave the newbie hell. He finally left in . There seemed to be more of that stuff, which was allowed to happen. My guess is the clique were friends with the website owner.

There was one called M***l, a woman, who posted the most inane stuff. Nothing to do with bikes - things like "I saw a film with a beginning, middle and end. " Also they had events for the clique such as "Camping Challenge" where the challenge was to go and camp in the New Forest.....hmmmm...this suggested that they werent really up for travel. No reason why they should be of course, but rather Boy Scout-ish. Also a favourite post of theirs was, "was it you I saw on such and such a road, near a chip shop?"

But mostly it was the clique and the little groups who ran the site....I gave it up. To be fair, it might be better now, I dont know.

I just had a look today - someone is leaving the site for similar reasons to those I have given. Someone in a clique wanted "to kill" him but when he objected, his posts were removed. Who knows how many others have kicked XRV into touch? It seems to be a very ingrowing and unhappy place which is going downhill fast. A pity, because one or two little parts are good. Theres a thread entitled "Voting with feet" all about those who are leaving in droves. Moderators who throw people off for no reason. References to the "hard core" who run the site. Their words, not mine. Theyre still doing "was it you I saw on the M25 etc" posts. Very parochial, very narrow in outlook ;but thats the level the administrator is happy with or it would have changed. The admin. seems to be inadequate. Maybe someone will start a healthy alternative and XRV will fade away.

Your safe Romeo, quite a few of us had already had a bit of a giggle about that and started a few more inane threads just to make the point
We do know who this person was over here and he was banned after upsetting quite a few members here and being repeatedly warned about his forum etiquette, he then reregistered under a different name and was rumbled and banned again as his behaviour had not improved. Xander is quite right there is more to that story than it first seems.


One thing that Dave S has pointed out to the moderators about the comments about this being an unhappy place is:

Interesting fact the membership is up by 15% over the last 3 months, that doesn't sound like a declining membership does it!
We had a record turnout at the national meet as well again people wouldn't turn out if they felt it was an unhappy place.

and I think that Fletch has actually replied within the Hubb itself.

Obviously I saw this a while ago as I posted on the thread. As far as I can recall (remember, I have a rubbish memory) only 2 people have ever been banned on this site and they were both the same person, who came back under an alias but gave himself away by behaving in exactly the same way that got him banned in the first place. Also one person left and told us first, which is the other thread mentioned. I've personally locked one thread since the forum was started and moved one temporarily for discussion.

I don't think that's much considering how many posts go through this forum each day.

Firstly greetings all! I have been lurking now for several centuries (maybe 14?!?! but I have lost count anyway) and thought I'd make an appearence.

After discussing this thread with Tim the Enchanter, yes he is a litttle bit older and greyer but he is still playing with newts giblets and bats wings bless him, we came to the conclusion that playground 'side taking' tactics are a little wasted on you lot, which is surely a commendable attribute, so as a little treat how about a little peril at Castle Anthrax for the weekend?!
