    Cool The philosophy of biking

Cars now regularly give a better return per gallon than a lot of bikes do, so theyre not all that economical anymore - leaving aside cg125's ttr's and bullets - but most of us dont ride those bikes.

There's little or no weather protection, so we have to kit out in expensive gear to try and keep the elements at bay - you just jump in your car in a tshirt even if its minus 5 and just turn the heater up.

There's no boot - so we have to spend even more money on luggage and racks to try and carry things - and then what we carry is compromised by weight and safety.

We can carry one person at best (excepting sidecars but theres not many of us have them.

We are more vulnerable to conditions such as ice, bad roads, spillages, mud on the road etc than a four wheeled vehicle.

IF we are involved in an accident, we are almsot certainly going to come off worse.

Many of the poplous think we are mad, bad, or antisocial.

We have to spend a small fortune keep the bike protected from the elements - how many car drivers have to cover their car in wd40 and acf50 just to get to work and back in the winter?

Modern bikes are now as complicated as cars to work on and are way beyond the scope of the home mechanic.

We dont have a spare wheel or inhouse entertainment (pans and bm's excpeted !!)

The list is endless .... so the quesiton is

Why do we love biking so much. What exactly is it that makes us shun the comfort and economy and convenience to ride two wheels????

Ease of moving through narrow roads and heavy traffic, ease of parking for me. I get the heebies when in a car stuck in a traffic jam, have to be sedated usually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Had a works' car for the week.
By the end of the day I'm sittin in the driver's seat rocking and talking to myself.

Filtering, I love filtering in rush hour traffic. The ability to keep moving when traffic is at a standstill.

Biking is a bit of an artform too, if you ride well it feels almost as if you have performed a perfect dance, very satisfying

I once left Kingston Upon Thames at night and got stuck on the M25 for a few hours. When I finally cleared that I headed onto the A13 and got stuck there for another few hours because of an accident. I had to turn to my passenger and ask her to put her fingers in her ears and then I screamed as loud as I could. Luckily it was winter and the windows were up. How do people put up with traffic and four wheels day in day out. It's only going to get worse as well.

    And then there's public transport.

Riding is therapeutic, getting on the bike for 45 minutes after a lousy day at work takes a lot of stress away, I can't imagine spending 1-2 hours stuck in traffic in a car, or 1-3 hours in a bus. Day. After. Day. After. Day...
