Hmm this is interesting though, he is right really.
The bank are at fault for letting someone set-up a direct debit on his account without his signature.
Under the direct debit indemnity scheme they must immediately refund the money to him.
The banks are too busy to check signatures on every d/d so don't bother and take the risk.
