Help needed in the lake district!

    Hello

not bike related - the carbs are fine thanks!!

i need to find somewhere that hires out small motorboats at this time of year preferable on Ullswater!

i have tried all the hire places that i can find onthe web and non are open until easter!

it's all about a planned romantic gesture that is looking like falling apart at the mo!

if anyone can help please let me know!

    thanks

The speed restrictions severely stopped the motorised boat business on the lakes.

Once you start with 'romantic gestures' she will expect it all the time!!!!!
Take her to the chippy. She will be happy just to be with you.

Nichol End do rent boats all year, I use them for work a fair bit, I had one in Dec but they're on Derwent Water. Nick Newby is the man to speak to there.

Speed limit only affected Windermere, the other's have had limits on them since the 70s and you've never been able to rent self-drive boats that were capable of more than 10 miles an hour, well not in my lifetime/memory. Don't think any of the boat hire places have shut down recently. It's killed a lot of the water skiing schools and taken loads of boats off the lake and hurt businesses that serviced/sold them, great shame there was just no need! Don't know anyone local who wanted it. Windermere is like a ghost lake now, it's so quiet and you hardly notice F15s and Tornadoes shooting down the lake at 450 knots and 100 feet! Actually I love em' but it kind defeats the object of making it quiet and tranquil.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any on Ullswater that run all year, Pooley Bridge shut up shop and I think the one just South of Glenridding by the roadside do too, I can't remember the name of the firm to check but my mate works in the village so I'll ask him tomorrow. Ullswater Steamers are still running though, Glenridding, Pooley Bridge, Howtown.

Does it have to be a motor boat? Where do you need to get from and too?

Think the LDNPA run boat hire all year on Coniston from next to the Bluebird Cafe (great Campbell memorabilia), Peel Island is nice and you'd have it to yourself at this time of year, nice place for a romantic picnic!

Also have a client who runs luxury private cruises on his brand new, huge motor cruiser on Windermere with food and drink, very nice but probably not what you're after . Let me know if you want the details.

i dunno if she ever ventures onhere so can't say too much!

wasn't after a fast one - it's just that our first weekend away was in the lakes and we hired one of those little chug along boats and had a pootle about!

wanted to to the same for this particular occasion!

We have made a bit of a habit of bombing up to Blackpool when we want Chips!!

Think it's probably Nichol End or Coniston then. For what it's worth, I prefer Coniston, bit quieter.

I know the area very well and have worked with/for most of the main tourism based businesses in the Lakes over the years so feel free to message me if you think there's anything I might be able to help with.
