    Technical help required

Looking for some more technical help with the forum if there's anyone about.
Experience with a LAMP set-up would be good, so Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP.
PHP coding skills and Linux command line stuff is probably a requirement, although could drop the latter if you've got some coding skills.

PM please if you're interested. The more the merrier.

    Re: Technical help required

    Hi Dave,

Since you have not exactly been overwhelmed with replies on your cry for help, I thought that I'd offer assistance.

Now, I don't want to raise your hopes too far, but I do have a little (read 'tiny') bit of coding experience in 'C'. I have also been using Linux for a good couple of years now - started with Suse 9.3 and have migrated to Ubuntu linux. So, if nothing else I now know how to set up a computer to run linux and iron out the kinks (but I 'spose your not looking for this).

Not done any Apache, MySQL or PHP, but this might be my chance to learn some new stuff.

Not much help maybe, but the offer is there.

    regards

    Tony (aka Lutin)

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Will PM you Lutin.
If there's anyone else with the skills please do let us know, this site does need to boost it's technical bods, and a few more to help out would be very much appreciated.
Any command line Linux experience would be very useful.

    Re: Technical help required

I have LAMP platform experience, and a little command line experience (writing the odd bash/shell script etc - though don't need to do that much, so not up there with fulltime server admins etc. in that respect).

I'd be happy to help out here and there if there's the odd job but any major longer term commitment I'm not sure I'd be able to take on at the moment. I spotted this thread a few days ago but didn't want to reply right away to see if anyone else came forward (they may have been a better bet for you to be honest), as I'm already overstretched with spare time free and discounted work for people, and I'm trying to keep the biking side of things seperate from work as much as possible (as it's about the only escape I have from it where I can truly switch off at the moment - anyone who's self employed will know exactly what I mean), and I don't like to make promises that I can't keep. I'm also tending to shy away from turning into a full time programmer in work as well (even though clients keep trying to pull me in that direction) as I tend to find graphic design work more fulfilling (though I still enjoy the occasional programming job I'm not so keen on doing it full time permanently so try to keep a balance between that and other work).

But if you can pm me what you have in mind I'll see what I can do. I do appreciate this website and what it offers, so I'm keen to support it. I'm just a bit wary of making a significant commitment to more coding as this looks like it might be a feature of my job for the next few months with a project I'll likely be involved in and I'm wary of finding myself stuck infront of a text editor in my free time as well as for hours each day at work as well.

Hope this doesn't sound too selfish, but as I say, I don't want to make a promise then not be able to keep it, and if there's someone else who can offer the same thing but is more enthusiastic about coding (some people live to code) then they may be a better bet.

Web development/programming isn't my full time job as I'm also involved in other things, but been doing it for years so I'm competent at most things, and have a fair bit of experience with php/MySQL, so if you have anything specific in mind if you can pm me and I'll take a look.
