Time for a RANT!!..... how many times have I bought bits off ebay and thought P&P costs a little expensive but thought maybe that's about right only to find that the amount stamped on the package is well below what was quoted. Just received a bike part with postage quoted at 11.99 and had 2.89 on post mark. I know costs include packaging but some people just take the pissssssssss

I wholeheartedly second that rant! I just bought a few OS maps from eBay and each one's postage cost just over half what the seller had marked on the auction. It's bloody daylight robbery.

And for rant mk2, when I pay for things on eBay, why do sellers never leave me feedback first? After all, I've paid and kept my end of the bargain.

Totally agree that most sellers 'up' the postage.
As for feedback - I've got 214 100% feedback but I know that if I dared give someone some bad feedback if it was deserved then they would give me negative feedback as retribution, even if I had paid quickly

Some people bump up the postage to offset the sale cost so that they don't have to pay as much commission.

Then wait for your positive feed back then leave a comment about the postage with the follow up option, sometimes I get the feeling they are making more out of P&P than out of selling the stuff

Standard fleabay operating.

Contact the seller and negotiate postage. I have done this before and they agreed. Got postage from £8 to £4 and it was actually about £3.20.

That's not exactly helpful. If they are crap you should say so. yes they do retaliate but everyone can see that.
I have had some retaliatory negative feedback from crap sellers but at least I am being honest and not misleading future buyers that the seller is legit.

see your point. But...
I had the misfortune to buy from an unscrupulous ebayer and in the end, PayPal asked me to return the goods the seller. When I did, the packaging alone cost me £30 and the courier I think £35.

I get smaller stuff from all over the place and invariably, poor packing means wrecked goods. My Riky Cross stuff was all chipped due to poor packing
