    can anyone explain this ?

I have an RD04 which was first registered in 1993 (on a K plate)

I know they stopped making RD04's in 92 but suppose it could have been late registered.

Now here is the strange bit - the frame number starts RD07 !!

Now its definately an RD04 and having checked with DVLA, The frame number and engine number are a matching pair and have been together from day one.

Have checked the frame number with Honda they tell me the bike is a 1993 RD07 - but it obviously isnt, its an RD04 !!!

    anyone explain this ???

Hope it's not a cut and shut, with the headstock from an RD07 welded onto the frame of an RD04 due to an accident?

Does the welding around the headstock look factory quality and is there signs of respray around that area? difficult to see if the frame has been resparayed at some point.

DVLA say there is no record of a frame or engine number change since its registration

welding looks fine and the number looks genuine

Well "looks" wise it is an Rdo4.. but is the frame white? if so that maybe the answer the frame has been changed.. wait then the DVLA would not say the the RD07 start is correct... oh i dont know.

There was an early RD07 that looked like an RD04, I think.
we took pics att eh National of the nose cone as it was slightly different.
    The RD04

The one we did not understand

    and the RD07

Re: can anyone explain this ?

Your 'RD04' has had a total rebuild as a guess, sometime, at least all the outer panels resprayed. The rear panel is not OEM paint pattern, and the paintwork colours look slightly off. The white frame is correct, but the white sump isn't. It is possible that you have an RD07 with RD04 panels on it, and that very early on in it's life the bike has this rebuild, or the RD07 had panels taken from a wrecked RD04. This would include the fuel tank too, but then it gets complicated because the fuse location, airbox etc is all different. Well I know it is with the RD03 and I think the RD04 was similar. The big jump came with the RD07, when it all became 'softer'.

Also possible is the frame VIN plate being swapped with a wrecked RD07 early on. Check the rivets.

I would check engine number with VIN, then check frame alignment and look for any suspect welding. This rebuild could have been done very well, with nothing wrong with it at all (except the paint pattern not the same as the factory one).

    At least it is unique
