    What makes a good campsite?

I've just submitted links to a few good campsites in N/Mid wales:

Thomas Camping, under Cader Idris (cheap, quiet/noisy as you like, awesome sunset views of the mountain/stars, fires allowed)

Woodlands, Devils Bridge (a bit family-oriented but good when not too busy)

Graig Wen, near Fairbourne (big field down a gnarly hill, nice views, fires allowed)

Hopefully an admin will be along in a bit to approve the links so you can all see them.

Myself & the mrs will be heading off camping as much as possible this summer, on bike or in car with the wee man, but always up for outdoor beer slurpage with like-minded folks.

Anyone got any top recommendations to add to the list?

    /td

what makes a good campsite??? - clean unsmelly loos and wash basins, decent free hot showers, no caravans, good views, quiet location (away from roads quiet- i don't mind the sound of people enjoying themselves).

Sadly these simple things are all too frequently lacking in UK campsites- especially the first one, and i get really p!ssed off when I have to pay extra for a shower after paying anything up to £10 to camp.

Re: What makes a good campsite?

What makes a good campsite is like asking what makes a good meal. The circumstances and whoa you are with and the time of year can all make a difference. Just like sometimes a bag of chips eaten with fingers out of the paper can be the best meal for that moment - romantic even, sometimes a gnarly little campsite with bugger all facilities but allowing open fires can be perfect.
With family you need other things nearby that they can do to occupy themselves, such as rivers or the sea, or play areas, or parks, or swimming pools or whatever.
If you have cycled or walked there then a shop - and a pub - nearby or on site can be important.
