    The cost of insurance

    Comrades,

I have just renewed my bike insurance for two bikes, a 1998 Transalp and a 1988 BMW R80RT.

£120 fully comprehensive with legal cover, for both bikes.

Could I have got it any cheaper?

Little wonder so many are riding around in Rollers and Jags.

    UP THE WORKERS!

That sounds a very good price, what company did u go with. I used to be with Bennetts but changed to Devitt as it saved me nearly £100!

THat sounds a good deal, I pay £90 for my Transalp with the AA and that's fully comp, when I added the AT my insurance jumped by £100

I went through a web site called BIKE INSURER.

Thier best quote was with Direct Choice, there were other companies quite close.

    Re: The cost of insurance

Imagine if I posted and said:

I bought a motorbike for £1,200. Could I have got it cheaper?

And people replied saying I bought my bike from this dealer but I bought the next one that dealer cos they had cheaper bikes.

And then someone else said: I bought one bike for £700 and a second bike for £1,000.

At some point, somebody would eventually want to know a bit more about the bikes. Are we talking about the same bikes? Do they do at the same speed? are they as comfortable? Do they have the same accessories on them. If they were all exactly the same then price would be an important factor.

And like bikes, bike insurance policies are not all the same. There is no standard wording, no standard excesses, no standard service levels.

There are bargains to be had but often cheap policies cover you for less, have higher excesses or pay out more slowly.

    Re: The cost of insurance

I pay over a grand for my bike, and the cheapest quote i have had for a 1 litre nissan micra is £1700.

Just because some **** nocked me off my mo-ped last year, completely not my fault, i should be able to claim compensation off him for higher insurance in the future

    Re: The cost of insurance

I had to move out of the way turning a tight corner when an old lady reversed from a junction right across my side blocking my route out, in the end the only place I had left to go was onto the curb my side!! dropped the Vara and the noise is what made her stop.

She claimed the sun was shining in her mirrors and she didn't see me (so by my reckoning she didn't bother turning her head to look)

Bennetts where to be honest absoloute crap in dealing with it and failed to get any money recovered so I now have 0 NCB as they had to pay £1000 for repairs to my bike.. their answer was I should have let her hit me???

Went with Direct Choice for this year as bennetts quoted £521 to insure my XL700V.

    Re: The cost of insurance

I pay £190 fully comp for my 955i Tiger from Carole Nash with legal cover and European Recovery.....It wasn't the cheapest but then I recently lost my car no claims discount due an accident where 50% of the blame was attributed to me purely because there were no independant witness's (absolute crap) So I was quite pleased with the quote considering I have only recently passed my test. I have heard good reports about the speed at which Carole Nash process claims. for reference I asked how much it would be to add a dominator to my policy and they replied "an extra £25.00 " Bargain!

    It's cheerful when saving £100

Both qoutes i did with Bennetts and Devitt were identical.
