    Advice

Being doing a service on the old car and I have the fuel filter to change. Unfortunately the filter is stuck fast; it is threaded arrangement which tightens on a rubber gasket, I have used WD40 without any effect. Getting a purse on it is difficult.

    Any tips ???

    Cheers

Puncture right through with a big screwdriver so the tip comes out the other end and twist?

I used to do that with the oil filter. With this filter the top is not fixed to anything solid it has all the fuel hoses coming in and out, I would be worried that I could not get it unscrewed and the wife having to get two buses to work.

    Popular I would not be.

Get your wife to do it then.

What car are you on?These filters seem to have a habit of tightening themselves up.Can you get a strap around it to give you some grip?

    Hi Alba,

You do not say if it is in the engine compartment or underneath the car as so many are today, as modern cars have a slight pressurised system I would refrain from puncturing it if possible.
Usually on the threaded end there is a nut portion you can put a spanner on to help undo the union also a strap wrench can help to hold it while you again try to undo the union, let us know what make of car it is.

Sorry guys but the OP is talking about a fuel filter and not an oil filter....

Best to get two water pump pliers (adjustable wrenches like these) and use them opposing each other. The filters tend to lock in place as it's normally dissimilar metals...

Some fuel filters can also be undone with those cups my landrover TDI 90 can but most fuel filters have a connection at either end or screw on assuming it is a cannister type it would help to know the vehicle.
