    Not all B.M.W. Riders

Are stuck up. I went out for a run on the @ and about 50 miles from home i got a flat rear tyre " new Metezler " two weeks ago. I had only stopped about ten minutes and a couple on a B.M.W. 1150 OR 1200 Adventure pulled up . He asked if i was o k and could he help ,I had just rang the Recovery people ,Part of my insurance cover and they were on the way to me. So i said thanks for stopping but someone was on the way to me. They went on their way and i waited for the recovery person. He arrived about 45 minutes later and after we had loaded the bike on the trailer he told me the recovery was only for 20 miles ,And any further miles on top of that would be charged at £2.50 per mile . I got the recovery man to stop 20 miles from where he had picked me up and went to the nearest house to ask if the people living there, would they let me leave my bike on their driveway and i would get the bus home and return in a van and lift the bike. They said yes no problem .So i unloaded the bike and went to the bus stop ,Two bus,s later i was at my house and heading back for my bike. I thanked the people at the house and gave them a ten pound note for keeping an eye on the bike until i got back again . They did not want to take the money but i insisted as they had done me a great favour .So i am looking forward to fixing the punture tomorrow night and getting my @ back on the road again ,I hope my rear tyre is not wrecked as i was sitting at 60 m.p.h. when i felt the back end starting to catch the front on a sweeping bend fingers crossed . Glad it turned out ok for you - max 20 mile recovery is a bit naff isn't it! Your insurance company are being a bit tight. (mind you my insurance doesn't have anything so it's better than mine).

Hi Sharribee I was well pleased , Where i got the flat tyre was not in the best of areas , Not the place you would pick if you had a choice to leave your bike .Fatowl it was buried in the very small print , I supose Monday to Friday it would work o k in Northern Ireland as you may be near to a tyre place that is open .But if you break a chain or the engine quits not much help really unless you are in a dodgy area and want to get out of the way.Phil W it was one of the benefits highlighted in the insurance policy to be with the insurance company . J i normally carry levers/tubes/and a air pump when i go out for a long run just in case ,I will get a can of the tyre weld during the week .Green flag here i come ,The recovery guy was great , I think he was a bit embarased about the 20 mile rule But it could have been worst ,Just a heads up for anyone on here who may have the same BENEFIT on their policy and think it will get them home. o k if you are less than 20 miles from home .And again thanks to everyone who helped out it restored my faith in human nature ,Something that has been in short supply in recent years.Francis

Thanks Francis, I was wondering if I'm in the same boat with the breakdown cover. I'm with Adelaide in Belfast. I haven't found anything in the small print and I'm waiting for an email reply. Every time I take the bike out it ends up over 20 miles from home.
