There is a good side to it though as a report the previous day stated

The council is also proposing a new by-law which will allow traffic wardens to penalise car drivers for parking in the motorbike-only spaces.

If they put decent railings up at each bike park so that every individual bike could be locked to something sturdy then paying would be more palatable.

I parked at the Leicestershire Royal Infirmary last week and put my disc lock on (within an M/C marked spot) only to come out an hour later to find it moved six feet forward and someone squeezed a car in and left my bike in the middle of the car park disc lock hard up against the caliper...looked like they had just dragged it once the lock engaged....I was bloody furious

    Re: It's started :(

Westminster City Council have been angling for this for ages and at least they've made extra provision. Paying is easy (if you have a mobile) and once you've paid on the day and you move to another spot you dont pay again.

I parked my car the other evening in a Westminster City Council Car park I arrived before 6:00pm so that maeant Congestion charge of £8 to pay and the parking cost me £16 - It was a date and she was worth it - so no harm done!

Anyway...compare the bike parking (I would have had to pay as I arrived within the charging period so that would have been £1:50 - that's not a bad deal and the carparks are all 'secure' ones with CCTV and staff.

Also by using an allocated space you're less likely to get some toe-rag try to wedge his scooter in the 'non space' between bikes - a common problem when parking in central london and solved only by removing said scooter and leaving it outside the bay....This should make this less common.

This is true - they are amending the traffic orders now as currently solo only bike bays are not like car park bays - after a certain time you can park in them which if looking for a bike bay in the West End of an evening is a pain

Why that hasn't been the law already is beyond. What is the point of M/C Only if its to be ignored without risk.

As for the parking, well, its a bummer, but I'm less bothered given they ahve added new parking spaces and finally given over to more anchoring points for security. In that they have listened to bikers needs.

I'm also a little less bothered as I live in Tallinn....

I which case, report the incident as criminal damage if there is so much as a mark on the lock or the caliper. The CCTV will provide the evidence - assuming the police will investigate it.

I bet they would have investigated a set of boot prints on a car roof
