    cars, useless things.

I have not had a car for 2 1/5 years, have hired one four times in that time but currently have my dad's on loan as he has been told by the doc not to drive.

It's some Honda thingy, 4x4, with a big spare wheel on the back.

Went to see my daughter in a short play at her drama club.

Anyway, on a hill, outside the drama club, spotting a parking space, I grabbed at the handbrake to find it wasn't there (it comes off the dash board - I thought only a 2CV did that) and rolled into a car behind. I was so far up, height-wise, and the rear wheel blocks the light, that I still could not see in the mirror what I had hit. I seriously did not even know if it was a car.

No damage to my old man's vehicle I think but a little dent in the W-reg Renault's bumper.

Took me longer to get there by car than it would walking too. What is the point of cars?

I went to Madeira with my son this August gone and hired a car. I picked up the car from the airport and you have to leave the carpark within 10 minutes of being handed the parking ticket receipt by the hire company.

Well it took me 8 minutes to find the thing, I quickly threw our cases into the boot and jumped in..... only to find someone had stolen the steering wheel. My son pointed out he had a spare one on his side so that was okay. We quickly swapped seats and I struggled to find 1st gear with my right hand and figured I'd be able to have a practice, work out where the controls all were when I got to the other side of the barrier.

'No way Jose', as the Madeiran car park planners say. As I passed the barrier I realised it led straight onto the motorway. The width of the road leading onto the motorway was one car wide and there were about 5 cars waiting behind me to get out of the carpark.

So now I am on a motorway with no idea where I am going, on the wrong side of the road (no chance to look at the map) and looking for a service station to top the car up and get myself sorted properly.

I saw a petrol station, no slip roads here, it's a right turn of the motorway and you're next to the pumps. I pulled up next to the pump (which was on a slope, like everywhere else in Madeira) and went to jump out. I had both legs but not my bum out of the door when my son started shouting, " Handbrake Dad, HANDBRAKE!!!". The car had started to roll backwards, the poor sod would've rolled nbackwards onto the motorway if I'd got out properly. He spent the rest of the holiday watching my every driving move like a hawk.

I had a vague memory of reaching for a handbrake, but only finding a door pocket, so I must have subconsiously decided not to bother.

I have trouble getting sheets of plasterboard on the bike. Also my baby daughter doesn't seem that comfortable in the Givi topbox even with her teddy AND bunny rabbit for company

Now, driving the Volvo does has its fun points. I've perfected pulling out in front of people, driving in the middle lane of the motorway for no reason whatsoever and can surprise the hell out of boy racers (it's a de-badged T5 and is a little bit quick).

Seriously though, if I'm not load carrying and don't need to carry piles of baby paraphernalia, the bike is the weapon of choice. I hate sitting in traffic jams and wasting my time looking at the backs of other cars.

They are there to annoy every biker and bus driver out there.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?
