I think my PC died

Came home from work, switched the machine on and the blue screen of death appeared.I tried restarting in safe mode but that did not work neither did last known safe configuration.Problem is i do not have( can not find,moved twice house since i bought the thing)a recovery disk.
So anyone got any clever idea's

If you boot in safe mode a couple of times will it not ask you if you want to goto last known restore point. If you do get this option say yes or select a time when you know it was working (sometimes it givesyou a list of the times you last booted up) and select a point and it will restore it from that point. Only drama being any work you've done since that restore point may be lost

What make and model is the PC? Large manufacturers will allow you to get duplicate restore DVD's so try the manufacturers website.

If you were closer I'd almost certainly be able to recover your docs and stuff for you. It easy when you know what you're doing, a pain when you don't. Not sure if there is someone close by that can help?

LV, open the thing up and clean it out with a hoover especially around the power supply, while its open check everything is sat tight, it only takes a memory strip to work loose through vibration and you get bluescreen or nothing.

once cleaned and checked plug it back in and try to reboot
if its still shagged use it as a paddock stand and fix the twin

Have you got anything on it you need saving, family photos etc? If not, PM me and I’ll sort out posting you a Windows XP DVD.

If you have stuff on you simply can’t lose then how good are you with a PC? Could you take out the hard drive and set it as a slave in another computer to recover the data? It’s not too hard, on your hard drive it will tell you how to set the jumper so that the PC recognises it as a slave drive rather than a master drive.

If you haven’t got another pc but have a laptop then goto a PC shop and buy a USB hard drive cradle for a standard hard disk to fit in then you can use your hard drive as an external desktop drive and plug it into you laptop and recover data that way.

A mate of mine might just have an external USB cradle I could borrow and I could post it to you to save you buying one then you can just post it back.
