    Chinky Trailies

Now these are are as cheap as a bag of chips 2nd hand with what is usually a very low milage after 18-20 months of use. I cringe every time I hear my centrestand bang and ground when off-road!

Would one of the XR clones be up to trail riding? Anyone ridden or owned one? There seems to be about 3-4 varieties/makes on the market at present, presumably badge engineering in most cases...

At 2-300 quid, these are throwaway after 18month of off road abuse!

I bought my son one a few years ago and to be honest if they are 18 months old and been used they are probably shagged........the one I bought from the word go bits were dropping off, bearings collapsing (both steering and wheel)
the frames rust BADLY (my sons actually snapped) and the suspension is generally very very poor.
They are what they are good cheap fun for a short while

Fairy nuff. That sure sounds like the voice of experience New, they can be picked up for 5-600 quid I see!

We have an Chinese Apache Quad which is a lousy build quality 100cc
2-stroke. OK for fun, but not a machine I would want to take across the Sahara!

Ah Chink-ee as in poor quality oriental poop, now I understand.
    Dont go there
I chatted to a bloke on his stand at the NEC of off road cars and I enquired about the engine and it was chinese. I said "so its made out of toffee" and he said "basically yes"
I thought and this fella was trying to promote a product

A pleasing degree of honesty there I guess

The Chinese tractors also had a poor reputation, however, they have improved dramatically in the past couple of years with mainstream companies selling re-badged machinery. These re-badged models go for a substantial premium over "no name" models, but they also have what appears to be a better level of QC on the finished tractors. I am considering having one on a demo and if it is suitable, see if can get a 3yr leasehire, that way I avoid having it about when the value/reliability plummet....

A local main dealer told me earlier in the year that the farm machinery of the future is going being built in China too, more technical kit or sophisticated add-ons are done here in Yurrup.

    Eggsackery!
You should see some of the pieces of "twaddle" we get on the roads over here, eg Motostar 200 (cheap, nasty version of the XR 200). Also, models of overchromed, over headlighted, economy budgeted, cruisers eg Predator 150, Raptor 150 etc etc .
Guarenteed corroded after the first rainshower. No spare part availability at all, unless you buy a second (and possibly third) unit, if you intend to keep it more than 6 months.

I think I will keep me wallet in me pocket!!

However, like you, I reckon we will be seeing more Chinese kit on the market as the quality improves with 1st world investment and QC.

Dont know about the NEC but the Intermot was full of Asian no name companies selling stuff from clothing to spares and bikes, the Germany Customs and Excise were impounding stands by the truckload for infrigment of copywright.
Most of the stuff looked like genuine kit but was held together with blutac
